Today, Officer John Wheeler, San Antonio Police Department, was laid to rest at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetary, and went 10-7, end of watch.


San Antonio Police Officer John R. Wheeler, Badge #1093, age 41, died in the line of duty, Friday morning, October 14, 2005 at 1:51 A.M. Officer Wheeler was born in Montague, MA on April 2, 1964. After high school, he served with the US Air Force for 11 years. He joined the San Antonio Police Department in 1993. Officer Wheeler received the Purple Heart for valor in the line of duty after being shot by two of 21 bullets fired from an AK-47 by a robbery suspect in 2003. Survivors include his wife, Kimberly, a San Antonio Police Dispatcher; father, Clifford; mother, Margaret; and daughters, Shayla and Mariah, all of San Antonio. Others include his brother, Jeff of Sugar Land, TX; sister, Nicole Bender of San Antonio; and his brothers in blue. Interment in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with Full Police Honors.
