Wet or Dry Campus?
Res Halls are dry, campus apartments allow alcohol only if everyone who lives in the apartment is over 21.
What type of housing arrangements does your system have (BE SPECIFIC - none, dorm floors, chapter houses close to/on campus owned by chapters, chapter houses far off campus owned by chapters, normal houses rented by chapters off campus, etc.)
Alpha Phi Alpha has a house on campus; Sig Ep did have a house in town, but House Corp. is forced to sell. No one else has any housing to speak of.
Are there plans for construction of Greek housing soon?
There is supposed to be some inclusion (still very preliminary stages of planning) for organization housing in a new building with some wings designed for group living.
Do those with chapter houses have sleeping dorms, open airs, cold airs, porches, etc.?
N/A
Parties thrown in the fraternity houses?
Sig Eps used to. Now everyone throws parties at the American Legion Hall in town.
Your city easy on underage drinking?
Not especially, though the city is easier than the county sheriff.
Are bars in your city easy to drink underage in?
Most of them seem to be, depending on the night.
Type of Fraternity Rush (Open, structured, summer, other)
Pretty open, there is a "Rush Week" each semester, but it's more for exposure/publicity. There isn't much restriction on recruitment.
When Sorority recruitment takes place for your system:
Third or fourth week of Fall semester.
Do Greeks run things at your school?
Not entirely, but actively involved.
Last Time Greek was Student Body President?
Three years ago.
Last Time Greek was Homecoming King?
2004 (Alpha Phi Alpha)
Last Time Greek was Homecoming Queen?
2003 (Alpha Phi)
Describe your typical Greek social Semester?(Are they called mixers/parties/exchanges, must they be registered, how many do you have a semester, any other "greek" sponsored social outlets, is having a party with another house a common thing or a rare thing, describe as much as possible)
Most chapters hold 1-2 parties a semester at the Legion, IFC/NPC have mixers, sometimes with Pre/Post gathering at someone's apartment. All IFC/NPC have Informal and Formal, NPHC all have Neophytes and Legion Parties. Some chapters will have functions with their counterparts in St. Louis.
Good relationship with the University Administration?
Pretty good compared with many places. It could be stronger, but it isn't adversarial.
Good relationship with Greek Affairs/Greek Life?
I sure hope so! (since I am the Greek Advisor) I have a good relationship with my students (some have offered to Alumni initiate me, but of course I can't since I'm already Greek!) It's also really easy to know just about everyone by name by the time they graduate from here.
Is your director of Greek Affairs Greek? From your Campus?
Phi Sigma Kappa. Undergrad from Ball State, but Grad at SIUE (was friends with lots of Greeks from here in Grad school)
Average dues associated with being in a chapter? More or less than living in Residence Halls?
Dues: Approx $200-250 per semester. The only group with campus housing pays considerably more for it than the Halls.
Hazing, common or uncommon?
