And I agree with the rest of your post. I was a journalism major, and while none of my professors were quite as impressive as the examples you mentioned, they WERE for the most part very experienced in the field. They didn't just learn it in a classroom then teach it... They actually spent time DOING what they were teaching. And I think it made them great teachers. I think I learned more from them and their real life stories than I did from professors who just spouted information to us out of a text book.
