Wow!
I sort of agree with Cashmoney.
My family was POOR growing up. Three kids, no college education and instead of going on welfare my father had three jobs to maintain our family and have a LITTLE left over to save. Over time he worked his ass off and was promoted at his company. But until then it was second hand clothes from the DAV, no cable, cost cutter brand EVERYTHING, and no car for my mom. We grew up in the poor neighborhood where middle class families felt the need to lock their doors when driving in. My mom worked at the daycare so we could go to a decent school- that was the only way. My brothers and I worked our asses off in school from the time we started through high school- my brothers went on to college where they ended up in debt to pay for their school. By the time I started my parents could afford to help me out.
Now they are both successful engineers, my father has worked his way to being one of the top sales people in his company and I have a great job myself.
We CHOSE not to sit back and feel sorry for ourselves. No one helped my parents. No one offered them a hand up and yet they took it UPON THEMSELVES to get off their asses and make their lives better.
And then there is someone like my roomie. She grew up with a lot of money in Florida. She never had to so much as clean her own room. Her dad bought her a new car when she was 16, paid for all of her college, and generally babied her... now she is 25, has had to file for bankruptcy because if she wanted it she thought she HAD to have it but bought everything with credit cards. She can't clean up after herself and she has ONE CLASS left for her degree that she is too lazy to do so she waits tables and makes shit money all the while bitching about her life. How she has put on weight, she has no money and how her stuff isn't as nice as mine. NO SHIT! I worked for my shit.
It is called ethics. If you don't like something about your life, get up off your ass and change it cause no one is going to do it for you... whether it is your weight or financial situation it is up to you to take responsibility.
And as for the guy that said we are the fraternity of the human race, I'd prefer not to rush... why should I work my ass off so some slackass can lay back. If he wants a hand up he needs to get up off his ass, cause I am not leaning down.
That's my $.02
