If you hate your job and your boss is a douche, then give the minimum notice. 2 weeks is standard unless you agreed otherwise when you accepted the employment. I very much agree not to give any more than necessary b/c it could potentially create a bad situation.

ZTAngel is right on with her explanation of the law. As long as it's true, you can't successfully be sued. People will try for anything, and that's why a lot of companies will only verify employment b/c they don't even want to lose a bit of money on attorneys to get the suit dismissed.

Hell, it's nearly impossible to get of HR people to verify someone's employment! I'm moving to another apartment in my complex, and my dad is cosigning because i'm not yet employed full time. They have to verify his employment (even though I offered them a copy of his most recent paystubs!) and have been having a hell of a time getting someone to return the call from HR.
