Only if the aircraft transponder is 'squawking' code 7500 - if the situation escalates to an emergency, then the transponder is set to 'squawk' 7700. There are other ways to covertly signal a hijacking situation to air traffic control and to police on the ground, but I'm not at liberty to discuss them.
