You shouldn't have any problem. I've take bamboo, steel, and aluminum needles as carry-on several times. Just don't take any scissors, no matter how tiny. Get one of those round yarn cutters with the covered blade. Also second the idea of carrying the TSA regs with you, I always do. Happy knitting! (FWIW I think plastic needles feel like crap, invest in the bamboo)
