Hi, I was just wondering to be able to teach in Texas do you have to be fully certifed? I'm moving to Texas I just graduated with a BA in Sociology I was wondering if I would still be able to get a job in education without being certified?

Alot of school districts differ, you more than likely will have to be in an Alternative Certification Program which you will apply for a probationary certificate which lasts a year and after that you need to either be certified or working on certification. ACP's just speed up the process in about a school year then you have to take the state test called the Texes and pass in your area. It is easier to get elementary jobs and their certification programs require usually just basic undergrad classes as the requirment versus high school which usually you need 24-30 hrs in a content area (math, social studies, science, etc.) Texas wants to know you are serious about having a CAREER in education and not just passing through.
