Don't let age bother you at all. Two of the guys that rushed with me are 24 and 2 of us were 17 then. If you find a group of good guys, they'll let you in.
And for conversation.. Don't try so hard to think of stuff to talk about. And it seems like, with the past you've had, you wouldn't have to much of a problem.
