There is no answer to your "why" that anyone here can provide.
However as a dear friend of mine, who is a member of the clergy, once told me: "While we can only ask why, we also must understand that SHE has her reasons".
Pat's family and friends all have their reasons and need to grive his loss.
The best thing to do is to honor him and NEVER forget him and what he did while here.
