Technically a generation is 20 years, but there is an overlap. Generation X was born between 1961 and 1981. But I would venture to say that those on the tail end have much more in common with generation Y which was born between 1981 and 2001. Incidentally, the cover of Time magazine is calling today's children Generation 9-11, in the wake of the terrorist attacks.
