Unhappy Chapter problem...

Okay...I have something I have to get off my chest. I am currently an inactive brother, although I still love the organization. I took 2 semesters off school for health reasons, and now that I'm back...the chapter has turned into something I'm not really thrilled about.

We have a brother who caused a lot of problems for our chapter a few years ago. In fact, because of Brother X's behavior, our chapter dropped DRASTICALLY in numbers. I'm talking from about 80-100 down to 30-40. Now, he's back as a grad student and holds one of the highest positions in our chapter.

Brother X has done some extremely shady things, and I don't feel comfortable being an active member with him around. Most of my really close friends left for various reasons, including his behavior. I feel betrayed and hurt, but there really aren't many members left that I feel I can talk to about it. I know there will always be people I don't get along with, but I'm really torn up about this one. Has anyone else been through anything similar?

Yea, depends on what the shady things are. Have you talked to any advisors regarding your concerns?

I have spoken to advisors, but they don't feel like there's a lot they can do. Our most active advisor recently stepped down from the lead advisor position, as well.

I don't want to detail all the shady stuff for obvious reasons (you can PM me if you really want to know). This brother basically thinks that his personal life is none of the chapter's business...but it is when it *directly* affects the chapter. As a slight tangent, I'm also upset that most of the brothers seem to view APO as a social club rather than a fraternity. I can think of ways to change that, but unfortunately my chapter seems to view any type of serious pledging (not hazing, I'm just talking about actually getting to know the brothers, doing more than just the bare minimum of service, etc.) as too exclusive.

Your section chair, I guess.

I think at this level, you may be better off dropping a line to your section chair, Mike Francis. His email is section.72.chair@apo.org .

Good idea Randy. Our chapter here just has great advisors and not every chapter has such good luck. Hopefully someone can help. Mike Francis is always a good resource.
