Men: Let's hear it...what's your take on makeup?

Hey all...

What do you think about girls wearing makeup? Do you like it/hate it/hate some parts of it, etc.? Do you like a specific product but hate some others (i.e. maybe you like the look of lipstick on women but hate powder, etc.)?

Is there a certain "look" that you like women to wear? Or maybe a certain celebrity's look that you like? I'm so curious, I love makeup, but men always give me mixed reactions!

Hey there Jacqui!!!

Obviously I'm not a guy , but I've asked my boyfriend about this issue before and he basically said this:

He likes the look of natural makeup when it is done right. For example, he likes what I wear: concealer, mascara, and light lipgloss, b/c it's very minimalist and very natural, yet, in his words: "you look awesome." He likes the fact that I can get ready in three minutes for makeup, while his past gfs have taken an hour to get ready on a daily basis (for going to school!)--all spent on makeup!

However, he likes it though when I glam it up when we go out partying or to dances, etc. However, no matter how much makeup I choose to wear when we go out for a special occassion, I always apply it with a very LIGHT touch and blend flawlessly. When I glam it up, I'll choose probably liquid eye liner, lipstick, blush, and very sheer tinted lotion. I put it on VERY sheerly--b/c I hate the caked-on look too! Anyway, he likes the look of it, but he said he would hate it if it looked fake and pasty. I guess I'm lucky that I have some makeup skills!

He admitted that he and his friends like the look of natural makeup vs. no makeup, BUT, did not like waiting forever for their dates to get ready. Basically, from what I've gathered, guys like to live with the illusion that girls are naturally born perfect...with perfect skin, eyes, etc. They don't like it when they find out it's all makeup!

However, some of my guy friends say that they like the look of makeup on girls; while others say they don't like any at all. They always say, "Car...like you. You don't have any makeup on!" While it's true that I have very LITTLE makeup on, they don't know that I do have some makeup on! So I just let them have their illusion

Here's the catch to all of this though...given the chance that they can pick between a fully made-up girl and a no-makeup girl, placed side by side next to each other (this was done in an experiment before, IDENTICAL TWINS were used!), they will pick that made-up twin almost 95 percent of the time. Yes...that includes frosted lips, red-blushed cheeks, heavy black lashes...the thing is, they love the look of it...just don't want to LIVE with a girl who is so high-maintenance! So they say that they don't like makeup...but again, this experiment proves them wrong...

So I guess if I were to sum up what I just wrote...guys like the look of natural makeup the most, but would prefer makeup to no makeup (shown from the experiment). However, every guy is different...but most would agree that they would not want to live with a high-maintenance gal. Hope that helps! BTW, what do you wear anyways? I'm sure it's fine!!!

By the way, guys...sorry to burst your bubble , BUT...

I know many of you drool over the models in lots of magazines...where they seem to have the perfect skin, body, lips, whatever, etc...

BUT here's the truth: They are all airbrushed! Most of them don't look like that in real life. There is a certain computer technology which is used to perfect the models in the ads...SO, don't expect your girlfriends or girls in general to look that good...because the truth is...not all of us have airbrushing systems at home! Airbrushing can take inches off a model's thighs, make her lips look better, zap out zits, etc. Plus all the moviestars have Makeup Artists, Hair Stylists, Facialists, Agents, Physical Trainers, Nutritionists, etc. etc. who all make sure they look absolutely impeccable. (Since a lot of the time, their job depends on their physical appearance!)

Believe me, my boyfriend and my guy friends were shocked by this piece of information .

1. To be laconic . . . we like it if it enhances and looks good.

2. We are not enamored of waiting, but like it when you wear a lot of make-up, and are dressed to kill, (see above) so please start earlier.

3. There is no such thing as to much if make-up if it fits #1 and #2.

4. Speaking for myself I am always more likely to notice the girl in make-up than not.

5. In my experience men that say they don't like the "make-up look", Which I guess means they don't like women being better looking than life, are generally intimidated. ITs harder to walk up to the better looking and better dressed people in a group.

6. In conclusion: Please wear make-up, please dress sharp, please start earlier and be on time, but most importanly please make sure you are skillful on the application of make-up.

Qualifier: This is from a man that brings fashion conscious women with him shopping so he looks presentable. However, it demonstrates that I know my failings .

First of all Newbie . . . you have to stop lying to us. Those women look as perfect as they do because they do. I am not sure where they all live because I rarely see anyone that looks like that but they DO exist.

And you have no right to damper our appreciation of life by such baseless and inflammatory accusations of the world of glamour, that go directly to how we rate the desirability of women.

I feel the same type of horror that Chandler (for you "Friends fans) felt when Monica tried telling him that when women get together for sleep overs they DON'T strip to their undergarments and have pillow fights.

Blasphemy I tell you and I won't hear of it.

That is no such thing as air brushing pictures! I'm closing my eyes and not reading anymore!

LOL Newbie! You are right on the money, girl!

Sorry 'bout that James and other guys . Those models out there are far from human! You'd be amazed at how different they look sans makeup! Plus, photographers use special kinds of lighting, too, to make the model's flaws go away. It's amazing what computers and graphics can do these days...

Just ONE ad can take DAYS to perfect, before they submit the ad to the magazine! Airbrushing can do wonders.

So what you see is really not what is there...

Perfect example is last months cosmo: you can practically see the computeriziation of the light hitting kirsten dunst. i was like whoa touch up job!

So I'm not a guy, but I want to add an example to newbie's response. There's a brazilain supermodel who has a HUGE scar from appendix removal, but somehow on magazine covers & in Victoria's Secret catalogs she has a perfect tummy. Just an example. I modeled & it's amazing what a good photographer can do with light alone...I'd have been perfect in we airbrushed my book.
BTW- my boyfriend loves tons of makeup & it grosses me out. He loves black eyeliner & lipstick, but I don't wear it often. Maybe clubin' or a party.

I am so tired of women constantly being judged but these impossible standards. I definately look nothing like a super model, and I don't care. I think women would have much smaller complexs if this were not an issue

I think there are some girls who look totally AWESOME w/o makeup, like my roomie for the fall. But, even though I am not a guy, I would say that the girl who looks cute and "natural" w/o makeup compared w/ a girl who's all glam-ed up and gorgeous would be chosen (looks wise) over the more natural girl. Ultimately, I think it depends on your natural beauty and the guy's personal preference in women

Less is more, here’s a little shallow story about myself. One night at a party we were all out back with the keg and this girl wanted to borrow my jacket. It was a bit of a cold night, well as cold as it gets in Houston so i obliged. Anyways at the end of the night she hands me my jacket back and leaves with her friends. So i put my jacket back on and one of my friends goes "what’s that on your sleeves?" she had gotten foundation/powder all over my jacket. My friend kept telling me it was no big deal and had probably just brushed her hair out of her face and gotten my jacket dirty in the process, well needless to say i never talked to that girl again, like i said it was a shallow story.
