How long should your relationship have lasted?
Everyone has been posting about their long term relationships and such.
Most relationships go through stages, good to bad, or good to comfy or dull and then to break up.
My question is how long should have your relationships have lasted if you broke up with them before it went from good to bad or good to comfy.
If you could go back and tell your younger self when to have cut it when it would it have been ? And why did you stay so much longer?

Excellent question, James! Very thought provoking.
The only super-duper longterm relationship I had before Mr. KR was with the guy immediately before him. We were together for 5 and a half years. Looking backward, I can safely say I should have tossed him aside 10 months into the relationship when he did something that really pi$$ed me off and I never completely trusted him again. Why didn't I? Beats me! lol
It's complicated, though, because if I would have done that I would have never met my husband.

The longest relationship before Mr 33 lasted a year and a half. It should have lasted 5 months. It definitely should have been over after the second Homecoming we spent together. If I had one moment I could do over, that would be it.

Before Mr. AChiOAlumna, I was dating and engaged to another gentleman. We dated for 4 months when I was 19 and we broke up. Then we got back together when I was 21 and stayed together and became engaged. Then we broke up again when I was almost 23. I kept dating him for another 5 months after that...
I was stupid...I should've stayed away after the first break up...we dragged this one out WAY too long!

I stayed with my HS boyfriend for 2.5 years. He was possessive, smothering, and pretty much unstable. I think I stayed because I was afraid of what he would do (to himself) if we broke up. That relationship should have lasted at most 4-5 months. Anyway, when I went to college and got all my great sisters they helped me see the light. I guess I just needed the support structure to help observe the "no contact rule" - James I don't think you've ever been more right

Before this current bf, I was with my ex for a year and 3 months. It should have never started really, but since it did, we should have ended around 9 months. That's when things just started getting rediculous.

I dated a boy for 9 months that I never should have dated at all- or if I did, it should have been 3-6 months. Basically he was the only person I knew when I went to college so we spent a ton of time together. But, that realtionship was also one of the reasons I joined a sorority, so good comes with the bad!

I always, always, always stay longer than I should...for example, this last dude, I should've said sayonara when he did something really uncool about 2 months into our relationship, but I stuck it out for another 2. What a waste of time.

The first one was about right -- it lasted a year and it should have. The second was two years on and off, which is about a year longer than it should have gone. The last was a year but it should have lasted about four months.

I think they all should have last the length they did because I learned so much about myself and others...My previous boyfriend before my husband, I dated for 2 years. Really I should have pulled the plug when I transferred schools. We were both at the same school and I knew that I couldn't handle having around and in my business all the time.......BUT I stuck with it and finally came to an abrupted end when I caught with another girl. Yep should have ended but I am glad I learn what I did.
