Just thought this might be a good thread to mention this in, but when I was a little kid I wanted SO BADLY to be Canadian! Not that I didn't love the United States of course, but Canada just seemed so exotic to me!

I don't know how or why I became a hockey fanatic at an early age, but back in the middle '70's, hockey coverage was almost non-existant in the U.S. and I was absolutely fascinated by a country that actually celebrated that sport! I remember hearing about that show "Hockey Night in Canada" and wishing so badly we had something like that here back then! (WE only had Monday Night Football which I thought sucked and was very uncool)

So I had my own subscription to "The Hockey News", when it was my year to pick our summer vacation spot I dragged my family to Toronto to see the Hockey Hall of Fame, I memorized all sorts of obscure facts about Canada, I spelled things the British/Canadian way (i.e. centre insteat of center)and, naturally, I was the only 9 year old on our block that knew all the words to "O Canada" in both french and english! And, of course, in the later years, I had my very own VHS copy of "Strange Brew", that classic film starring Bob and Doug Mackenzie. Haha, call me a geek, I know you want to!

Anyhow, just wanted to say that I still think Canada rocks and Happy Birthday (Bon Anniversaire! )

P.S. Thank you for "Kids in the Hall"!!!

Thumbs up

Sounds like we all have the same plans . I've been at the beach all day playing volleyball and am heading back to the beach later to watch the fireworks and then it's off to a party ( and knock back a few molsens, labatts, kokanees, or whatever is on tap).

Wink

Happy Canada Day
to the country that has brought us hockey, the mounted police, igloos and beer!

hehe.. just kidding about those : I just read about some TV show where a Canadian guy goes around America & asks Americans really basic questions about Canada... and they totally get things wrong!
