Accident
I hit a bicyclist this evening... I feel horrible... he is fine.. just a cut hand... he was changing lanes and I was changing lanes and our paths just crossed... it was dark and he had dark clothes and no lights on his bike and was coming from my blind spot... I feel horrible and when I told my dad he just lectured about responsibility and how I jsut "drive around everywhere" when gas is expensive and how everytime you drive it's a risk and how now my insurance is going to go up. == sigh== it's been a long day.

Sorry to hear it.
Isn't it the law that you have to have reflectors and a headlight if you're biking at night? It is around here.
The important thing is that there were no serious injuries and no deaths.
Take care.

Oh Cara! I know you had been having a really rough day but this tops it all. I am so sorry; I'm sure it must have been quite a fright for you and the bicyclist both. I'm so glad that you are both relatively OK.
You know where to find me if you need anything at all. Please don't hesitate to ask. I'll say a prayer for you both tonight.

OI, that sucks! Being a cyclist myself, it is the worst thing ever. Was his bike OK? (it seems like a childish question, but considering some roadbikes cost 9 or 10 grand...)

His bike wasn't terribly damaged, a tweaked wheel is about it. I'm just glad he was ok... I was literally shaking when it happened. I'm not sure about the reflector/lights law here in Cali. I do know we have a helmet law for people under 18. Thanks for the positive thoughts !

you shouldnt just be driving around everywhere with gas so high priced. And now your insurance is going to go up.
(sorry, had to do the dad rant)
((HUG))
A few months ago my roommate's mom was driving home from work and a motorcycle ran a redlight and they collided- she was fine with not too much damage to the car she was in ("big ol' hunk-o-junk"), and the motorcyclist died.
I'm glad to hear you are ok and the cyclist is too.

I'm all for sharing the road with bicycles and motorcycles, but around here a lot of them seem to think they have special priveleges and can just dart anywhere they please, so I'm actually surprised these kinds of things don't happen more often! I'm sorry you've had such a crummy day...at least everyone's OK, though, so that's a little consolation.

2 wheel vehicles driving or riding on the roads have the very same responsibilty as 4 wheels do.
This person was either a Dumb Ass or was looking for an Insurance pay off!
Riding in dark clothes and no reflectors, Hmm, I think as when I was a Police Officer, I would have laid into them myself.
Dont feel to bad until you find out the real situation!

Cara I'm sorry to hear about your accident. I'm extremely glad it wasn't too bad though.
As for the reflector laws in California - I think we do have laws that say they must have reflective material on the bike and possibly even a light if it is night.

{{{hugs}}}
thank god it wasn't worse.
out my way, we've got real problems with pedestrians in poorly lit areas all in black.

If you do have a reflector law in California, I would definitely try to get the insurance charges dropped or given to him. He was as much at fault as you. Don't just sit back on this one! Sorry you had a bad day!!!

I think here in California the only law i believe that is on the books that comes close to this is the one regarding motorcyclist and helmets....not cyclist( bikes).
I am soo sorry your day has been crappy........ but if it is a law that they are required to wear some relfector or helmet than fight it all the way.
