I totally agree with you on this norcalchick! The last good book I read was Why I Wore Lipstick to My Mastectomy by Geralyn Lucas. I read it in one sitting. I am in awe of how the author faced such a traumatic event with such grace!
I read depending on my mood. If I'm feeling smart, I'll read some good literature. If I'm in a bad mood or sad, I'll read what my fiancee refers to as literary porn. They are basically novels by authors like Nora Roberts & the like.

I'm currently reading Anne Rice's Taltos , the third in her "Lives of the Mayfair Withches" series. She's the author of the Vampire Chronicles (Interview with the Vampire, etc) and dozens of other horror books. I love her. Excellent writing.
I'm also reading C.S. Lewis' Mere Christianity which is amazing.
