My chapter currently has a policy as such:

1. No open parties at the house
2. Brotherhood events, socials with sororities (mixers) are allowed at the house
3. Everything else is off site.

Do they follow that policy? No.

I suggest that you work hand in hand with your alumni, they are your best asset - trust me.

I think Beta's risk management policy says you can't more than 300 people at a frat. house party or more than three times the brothers in the chapter...or something like that.

Currently we are a dry house, so we have all our parties at bars that we rent out or at brother's houses. Luckly, there is a house right across the street from the Beta house here that some brothers live in and we throw parties there all the time. Beta South. Sororities are not allowed to go to social functions at frat houses unless they are open parties.

GKaye13 -

How is the colony going? I saw your website on the VT.edu website, pretty nice. I also see that your house is about finished, when will you be moving in? Do you have any pics we can see?

Good luck with everything.

Nebraska checking in.

This is the way we do it here.

1. No alcohol at all inside the chapter house. So that of course means no parties at the chapter house. Occasionally we'll have sober events with a sorority at the house.

2. All our "parties" occur at bars to satisfy the third party vendor rule. There are quite a few Lincoln bars that have either backrooms or are otherwise available to rent for weekend nights.

3. Primers for the parties occur at the homes of upperclassmen who live off campus.

4. We don't have kegs at "calendar events". Basically anything that gets announced in chapter or is scheduled with a specific sorority means we get as many cans of beer as we can. Events that just "happen" can have kegs. So if I were to call up guys tonight and say "I'm having a party at my place" I could get a keg.

I'm not sure about the numbers, but our EC said that anything that could be construed as a "Beta" party legally, whether it occurred at the residence of a Beta or not, is a Beta Party. That could even mean that it was a party thrown by a GDI and maybe 3 Betas show up, not even a sizeable % of the males there... If someone thought it was somehow affiliated with us, the chapter, the members and the GF could be sued. (Granted it would be a difficult case to show our involvement but it could be possible).

EC say some....odd things at times.

We got in a little trouble two years ago for having a party at our house that didn't abide by risk management policies. They said there was a number of violations and listed them...but when it came time for us to get sanctioned or whatever, the only thing they could really pin on us was the number of people.

Parties!

Glad to see that the Virginia Tech chapter is coming along so nicely!!!

We're still a colony as well, so we do not currently have a house. Therefore, we rent out clubs downtown and allow them to provide the alcohol so that we don't have to worry about it. They still card at the door and we do not allow underage drinking during the social. That doesn't mean you can't do whatever you wish at your own residence prior to coming to the social.

Feel free to come visit us down in NC! We aren't that far from you!
