Waiting for the call...
to see if I have a 2nd interview.
I have interviewed with this agency once before. I did not get the position because they said they were afraid I would, "get bored", which I interpreted as I was overqualified. I interviewed again at this agency on Monday for a job that I am qualified for (in the previous interview, the hiring manager suggested I apply for this position) and I thought the interview went really well. Out of the 3 people who interviewed me, I had already met two of them. These two people remembered things about me from my previous interviews. They asked if I was still at "Acme, Inc.", they informed the one interviewer I hadn't met that I have experience in a certain computer program that the agency uses. They told me that 2nd interviews would happen at the end of the week. I haven't gotten a call yet.
I know they are looking for 2 people. The last time I interviewed, it took them 6 days to get back to me to let me know I had a 2nd interview. I also know they are in transition now in some of their programs, so they might be understaffed. I guess I'm going nuts because I really want this job. Just wanted to hear what you think about this situation.
Sorry for the long message!!

This brings up an interesting question, that I would like the answer to... What is a standard time frame of a callback? AND, if you aren't getting the job, would they contact the person that they wanted first and have them sign the contract before you, just in case that person refuses the job?

This varies hugely by the company, how many people they are interviewing, how many people have a say in the decision and how much red tape they have to go through with human resources. In my health care system, they are painfully slow! And here, they don't notify people who didn't get the job until the first person they hire actually passes their physical and blood test and shows up for work the first day.

That's a long time... All she said was "soon" and my 2nd interview was Monday. Unfortunately, I really really really really really want this job. I've interviewed for a couple more that could be interesting, but this is the one that I actually want and would LOVE.
