Do you own any books that you are ashamed of?

Do you have any books that you hide when people are coming over? Or, keep them in a private place away from those who live with you?

Yes or no? You don't have to tell us which books (unless you want to).

As of now, there's six books I keep well hidden.

I bought a book called "Ready for Rush!" a few years ago. It's really stupid but I can't say I'm ashamed of it, really.

there are some books that i still own that i am kind of ashamed to have. i have had some of them since middle school. i love to read them still cause it helps me forget the college/adult world for awhile and go to my childhood place. people might think that i am silly but i love the kid in me.
so i guess i am not really ashamed to have them...

My husband owns a Jeff Foxworthy, "You Might Be a Redneck If..." book from before we were married. I try to hide it, but he just keeps finding it and putting it out for people to see...

I am ashamed when people see it. I feel like white trash by association of literature!

I have Real World books that are kind of embarrassing.

I have a couple of books given to me as gifts years ago called, "Truly Tasteless Jokes."

I wouldn't leave them out for anyone to see.

I have used a few of the jokes in the past, though.

smiley, even at my age I keep my copy of Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret. around because sometimes when you have had a long rotten crappy day, it is really really comforting to read about the Sixth Grade Square Dance just one more time.

I happened to find this confessional site one day, and have since ceased to be embarrassed at ANY reading material I own.

"Play Poker like the Pros" by Phil Hellmuth (who is third in the "Douche of the Universe standings, behind John Edwards and Dr. Phil) . . . it's about 10% useful compared to something by, say, malmuth or sklansky

I also own like 15 tomes of modern American poetry, as that was part of my concentration in college - let's just say they don't take a prominent role on the bookshelf, for the good of the sex life.

Using words like "tome" in everyday language is probably what's hurting the sex life.

Not the poetry.

Back at my parents' house in storage, I have a book on "Behind the Scenes of Saved By the Bell". It's about 10 years old but I don't want to sell it because I'm sure that one day I might want to read it for a good laugh!

I'm not embarassed that I have a subscription to Real Simple magazine (organizational tips- yay!, decorating tips- yay!).

I have a book of fiction about fraternities that is not what I expected it to be and I wont say what it is as I'm embarassed to have it (it was an online order that didnt turn out to be what I thought it was). It ranks up there with a DVD I have that I thought, based on the description on the website, was a documentary about college age gay men's first loves, etc. Turns out to be a Sex-Ed Video.

Can we hold hands? Maybe engage in touching of the genitals?

I read almost all the books listed on this site. I probably still have some of them around in the closet or somewhere.

I also read all the Elizabeth Gail books, by Hilda Stahl, when I was younger. What's unusual about this is that it's a series of Christian YA books, and I'm Jewish. Go figure. (There were some good stories there, though.)

As for what I keep in hiding...probably my copies of My Secret Garden and Forbidden Flowers, and a couple other books of that order. Not ashamed of them, but it's nothing I need to keep on the coffee table for everyone to see.
