Thursday - The new Friday
Over the years, I've gathered one thing about most responsible SDSU students: they study all week, then go out and party, thereby comsuming every inhibiting solution imaginable.
But this past year or so, a lot more people have turn Thursday into the first day of the party weekend. As a result, a lot less students go to class on Friday.
My Public Relations professor, who has just started here after teaching at the U of Maryland, was wondering why there was a significant abscence of students on Friday. Our replies were "it's Friday." Her response was "so, people just don't go to class?" And everyone said "Yeah, Thursday's the new Friday."
Is that happening at your campus, or is this something that's normal?

That's the way it was at Boston U. as well...for people without Friday classes or work, Thursday was a big night to go out. A lot of the bars and clubs in Boston have Thursday night specials.

at Miami University, we always said the weekend started Thursday afternoon. A lot of people either tried to schedule their classes so they didn't have any on Friday, showed up hungover, or didn't show up.

I think it happens as you get older. I never went out on week nights until junior year. That legal drinking age has a way of doing that to you.

Well people here start their weekend on thursdays, that much is true.
Back in Toronto, Thursdays used to be college nights at the clubs/bars...I am not too sure about MI though.

For as long as I can remember, UCF has always celebrated the first day of the weekend on Thursday. Hardly anyone I knew would purposely schedule a Friday class; we would only schedule Friday classes if that was the only day of the week a particular course was held or it was the only day of the week that a class would fit into our schedule. Also, we tried to schedule our Thursday classes to end by 4pm so that we would have time to go home, nap, and then get ready to go out.
The bars in Orlando have specials and events on Thursday nights.

Wednesday is the new Friday here. Both Wednesday and Thursday are big pub days, so many students will miss one (if not both) of Thursday and Friday.

HAHAHA I knew it.
I'm waiting for the old-timers to tell us how irresponsible we are and how we're wasting our education....

Actually, I was going to tell you that Thursday was the new Friday a few decades ago.
Wait... did I just concede to being an old timer?

It's not so new. I had no Friday classes either semester Freshman year...so Thursday night was party night #1, Friday was chill w/ sisters or friends and get some work done, Saturday was party night #2.
But, now that I'm not in undergrad, and happy hours don't sound so desperate, Monday has become my party night. wOOt.

I haven't had Friday classes since Freshman year really. Here at Butler it's not a big deal, most houses do things on Thursday nights and I know Thursdays are a big bar night. It's a good time!

Here at W&L the big nights are Monday, Wednesday, and (obviously) Friday and Saturday. Thursday I think is just starting to kick in this year more so.

My senior year, Monday was the new Friday. I mean I went to classes during the week, but they just started late in the morning so I could go out a lot.

Plus, most greek orgs at BU couldn't afford to have events at 3rd-party establishments except for on 'off-nights' - so many sorority events especially were tuesday or wednesday nights.
Some of the drunkest nights I remember were tuesdays or wednesdays - ksigkid can vouch, he was there for 95% of them.
