Locals and Nationals
So are there any local greek systems that have had "coexistance" with nationals? my school is almost exclusively local, with the exception of an Alpha Sigma Phi colony. I don't know how I'd feel about nationals on campus...considering the size of some of our organizations. I wonder if it would even take off. Discuss.

Our school has two nationals, Alpha Xi Delta and Phi Mu, and we are the one local, Omega Sigma Alpha. It's kind of hard, because we don't have alumni (we are less than a year old) or money, and we can't get all the cool stuff. But it's nice that we're small, because we're really tight knit. We coexist pretty well, although we do get along better with one group than with the other. The only problem so far has been that we can't be on our school's panhellenic council, so we're often out of the loop.

There are many campuses where there are strong locals and national orgs. When there are more than 2 NPC groups and a Panhellenic Association is formed, it is fairly common for local sororities to become associate members. Alternately, the national groups will participate in a campus-wide Greek Council.

On my campus we have 3 NPC's and we're the local. In terms of campus rights, etc. we have the same as any other GLO on campus. We do NPC rush with the other sororities, and have equal representation on the Greek Council. Last semester, a KLP was VP of Recruitment, and this year the president of Greek Council is a KLP (my Big! ).

We have 2 national fraternities (Tau Kappa Epsilon & Alpha Sigma Phi), 2 local fraternities, and 5 local sororities. We have had NPC sororities at one point. Delta Gamma (interest), Theta Phi Alpha (colony), Phi Sigma Sigma, and Alpha Sigma Tau. NPC sororities just can't manage to take here
Since our greek system is small (3-25 members) we coexist quite nicely.

At my campus, we have 5 local sororities and 5 national sororities, but because there has always been the mix, we don't have any problems in terms of local vs. national. Local sororities are all members of the Panhellenic, follow the recruitment rules, etc., and in turn, they can serve as officers, etc. Is it one big happy family? Hell no, but what is...and it's got nothing to do with local vs. national.
