Wireless speakers

Does anyone have any? Do they exist? I need some speakers to play my jams.

I used to sell these. They have awful sound quality. If you just want mobile speakers for background music, and sound quality isn't important, then, and only then should you consider them.

I essentially want a speaker in every corner on the ceiling of my apartment. How do I do this without nasty wires everywhere?

Buy speaker wire that has a color of flat white, and that is paintable. Basic Monster Cable XP-NW wire will do. Its about $65 for 100'. Two rolls of this, plus 2 pairs of inexpensive speakers, like Energy's XL-150 speakers, at $200/pair, will be a much better choice. You'll also need mounting brackets. Energy sells these also.

Also, remember that wireless speakers have transformers. This means that you would either need to have electric outlets placed high up, and behind the speakers, or run extension cords down the wall.

If you own the place, you can go for in-wall, or in-ceiling speakers.

Don'te waste $ on expensive wires. You'll never be able to tell the difference. Maybe you could measure it with electrical equipment, but it won't make a huge difference at all.

Monster cable is a HUGE ripoff.

And *NEVER* spend extra money on anything digital. Digital is digital -- either it works, or it doesn't.

What everyone's saying is basically right. There are too many downsides to wireless speakers. For one thing, you still have to plug them in.

Do you own your place? Do you have any closet/attic space that you can use to mount amps in? If you're not averse to spending a little $, I put in a system a few years back that kicked ass -- the whole system was for about 3 rooms. Including the source equipment, I think it was about $20,000. Of course, you probably wouldn't need a $5000 turntable like this lady did

But check out Linn and their in-wall control systems. Very cool. If you get these things professionally installed, they can do a very clean job.

Premium cable is worth the money in an appropriate system, and you can hear the difference. What's your experience with evaluating cable?

Also, digital is NOT digital. There are things like jitter distortion, phase shifts, power supplies, as well as the analog line stages of digital products that effect the sound. CD players do not all sound the same. That is a huge myth that has been largely dispelled, and I'm surprised to read it hear.

Man all I want is a set of speakers to listen to my tunes that won't put wires everywhere and cost me as much as a car.

So do I. In a year or so, I plan on getting this turntable (VPI Scoutmaster & JWM-9 Tonearm for $2,400):

with this cartridge (Grado Reference @ $1,200):

and this phono pre-amp (EAR 834P in black @ $895):

and connected with Analysis-Plus Silver Oval cables, (if ktsnake puts these in his system, he'll retract his statement about cables) at $630/meter:

I gathered that. I've sold, and installed $50,000 systems, which is why I didn't recomend something that expensive. I recomended speakers + wire that roughly equals what wireless speakers would cost you.

There is little point in spending huge amounts of money on speakers that will be placed in corners, as much of what you are paying for is lost. The ideal placement for speakers varries, but is usually at ear level when sitting down, and several feet from a back wall.
