Im
This pisses me off, how people instant message you and then they kinda stop talking and then finally respond back to you but by then you are tired or doing something else. Sometimes I feel like dont send me an IM if you are not free to talk, if you are on the phone, let me know or something........

Yeah I hear ya. I am not really a chatter though. For the most part I keep my away message up when I am online because it seems people will IM me at the most inconvenient times and I feel bad that I can't chat so I leave the away message up. I have one friend who will IM me as soon as I wake up and log on in the morning. He doesn't understand why I am not awake enough to engage in an on-line conversation that early

Unfortunately that is exactly what I do. Anyone that IM's me during the day usually knows that I am at work. Considering that I am working they know that I may or may not be able to carry on a conversation.

I hate IM's period. If someone IM's me, I'll talk to them for a few minutes, then I just start ignoring them.
It's communication, not recreation. Don't IM me unless you have something to say.

I usually just IM people to leave them messages when I want responses faster than in email. With friends in different areas now, I'd much rather talk on the phone to them.
When everyone was in town it was a different story since I saw them all the time anyway.

I have one friend who is notorious for responding 8 hours later. Grrrrr.

I have friends that just leave their IMs on all day if they can. Usually it's with an away message and they will be away for over a day. If you aren't going to answer your IMs, then turn your IMs off!

I have one friend that will do this. We'll start a conversation and he'll say brb and then he doesn't come back. And if I happen to leave my IM on he'll message me at 3 o'clock in the morning. Ummm...no I'm not here I am asleep!! Where the hell were you 8 hours ago?!
BRB means "be right back" not I'll be back several hours from now!

The worst are the people who put up away messages about having to write a paper and how they can't be disturbed. If you can't be disturbed, sign off!

Some people use the internet to research papers they are writing. Other people never ever sign off of AIM (or if they are using AOL they are automatically signed on to Instant Messenger.) So when they don't want to be disturbed they use an away message. Which is what they created away messages for! DUH!

I guess in this case I'm talking about people in my sorority (all ethernet connection...no one uses AOL to connect). People put up these away messages about how it's sooooo important that no one come visit them or call them or disturb them, but leave a message and they will get back to you later. I just think if it's that important sign off!!

Oh geez. If someone leaves me a voicemail that is just something to the effect of "hey, I called, you weren't there, I'll call you later" or they leave the exact same message as they had left 20 minutes earlier, I will have a frank discussion with them as to why it's a dumbass thing to do.
I feel it's my way of contributing to society.
