Schwarzenegger calls legislators 'girlie men'

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (news - web sites) mocked his opponents in the California Legislature on Saturday as "girlie men," and called upon voters to "terminate" them at the polls in November if they don't pass his $103-billion budget.

Using tough rhetoric that borrowed from his days as a bodybuilder and actor, the governor said state lawmakers are telling "lies" and are "back to their old habits" after a post-recall burst of bipartisan collaboration.

Legislators, he said at a rally in the food court of the Ontario Mills shopping center, are "part of a bureaucracy that is out of shape, that is out of date, that is out of touch and that is definitely out of control in Sacramento."

Schwarzenegger added, "They cannot have the guts to come out there in front of you and say, 'I don't want to represent you. I want to represent those special interests: the unions, the trial lawyers'…. I call them girlie men. They should get back to the table, and they should finish the budget."

Democratic lawmakers, gay and lesbian advocates and feminist groups bristled over the governor's comments, which were greeted with sustained applause by hundreds of people who were invited to the rally through automated phone calls put out by Schwarzenegger's camp.

Talk about cheesy. He can't even insult people without using an old famous movie quote. How sad.

Just the fact that they are that offended by such a flippant comment shows that they are indeed: Girlie Men . . . both the men and women.

Lets play devil's advocate for a second. He was probably elected in large part due to the recognition of his image and movie roles. Now he's cashing in on that to try to win his arguments in office. Kinda lame - yeah. Easy to see why he's doing it - absolutely.

That and you also have to respect the man for really sticking to his guns. He's not a politician and doesn't seem to care about playing nicey-nice politics.

Are there any Californians that want to comment on his performance thus far?

I can vouch on his economic performance.

So far he hasn't wavered and we were really worried about California credit ratings last year. This year they've sorta flooded the market with California paper but it's solid with decent ratings.

And I think his biggest task was that - the economic state of California. He can't touch anything else until he at least has that more under control.

The biggest challenge to that is that many Californians dont want to reduce their state programs but at the same time many dont want to raise taxes.
I wish I could have my cake and eat it too.

"The San Francisco Chronicle chided Schwarzenegger in its lead editorial on Monday: "Schwarzenegger ... shifted from brutish to boorish this weekend when he called the resisting lawmakers 'girlie-men' -- a term with an ugly history as a slur against gays." "

Ummm right.
