What CD should I buy this weekend?

Okay I need a new cd - I've just gotten tired of listening to the cd's I have, so I thought I'd let GC give me some ideas.

My musical tastes - pretty much your alt-rock type of guy. I like a lot of groups that are on the edge of indy music towards the mainstream. I also like a fair amount of "underground" rap, although I do like OutKast and Jay Z, but otherwise not much else.

I've just started listening to Guster, Blackalicious/Gift of Gab, and Stellastar

Last 5 cd's I've bought: Rober Randolph and the Family Band, The Thrills, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, AFI, and Brand New (kinda of varied)

CD's that I've considered buying

Smashing Pumpkins: Greatest hits
Ben Kweller: On my Way
OutKast: Speakerboxx/love below
Cursive: The Ugly Organ
Jay Z: The black album
Weezer: The blue album reissue or Pinkerton

So there you go, suggest away, and let me know what you think I would like, what I absolutely must own, or just what you've been listening to lately.

Smashing Pumpkins...as long as it doesn't have too many post-sellout songs... (I haven't seen what's on it, I stopped listening to them when they sold out)

Mos Def and Talib Kweli are . . . Blackstar
Talib kweli - Quality
Atmosphere - Lucy Ford CD
Atmosphere - Seven's Travels
Bright Eyes - Lifted, or . . .
Ted Leo and the Pharmacists - Tell Balgeary, Balgury's Dead
Mr. Lif - Enters the Colossus

hit me up if you need mp3 'samples' for any of these, dude, i'd be glad to help - our musical tastes overlap, you'd like a lot of the same things I'm sure.

Depends on when you think they sold out. You think they did it with Adore, Machina, or are you one of those people that thought MCatIS was thier sell out point? The CD is nothing but the singles Machina, Adore, Mellon Collie, and I believe Siamese Dream. As a result, I'd only advise a casual pumpkins fan to bother buying it. Any more serious fan already owns all the CDs the singles are taken from and/or can think of a better set of SP tracks that wouldn't involve many singles at all.

Betarulz, on the off chance that you don't already have it (though I bet it would be safe to assume that you do), I'd suggest picking up Jimmy Eat World's "Clarity." It's one of the most solid CDs I've heard yet. People who otherwise hate JEW, alt/indie/emo/whatever (I'm bad at categorizing mucis) rock, or started out thinking it would suck have all sang the praises of this CD. Not saying you'll like it, but I'm hoping you will.

Oh, and some personal favorites of mine, none of which I can make any promises about:
Juliana Theory - Understand This Is A Dream
Further Seems Forever - The Moon is Down
Just about any Taking Back Sunday CD
Jimmy Eat World - The Singles
Either Michelle Branch CD (Don't laugh. She and Jewel... awesome. Tried to hate each of them when they came out, just couldn't do it.)

I believe they were already sold out at Adore.

And good point...I have all the CD's that aren't bootlegged (including a few imports) before that, so what's the point?

I once got drunk and tried to say Adore wasn't their worst effort... I stopped drinking that night. I always wondered how they managed to sell out with Adore and lose most of their fanbase. Any clues? Typcally when you sell out, you gain more fans and your music takes a bit of a slide. Not in this case. Dont get me wrong, I like Adore, there are some stand out tracks on it (Appels + Oranjes, The Tale of Dusty and Pistol Pete, Perfect), but on the whole, it just can't stand up to any of their other CDs, not even Machina. Taking that into account, Adore doesn't even hold a candle to Siamese Dream, either Mellon Collie disk, or even some of the extended singles in the boxset.

If I didn't already own all of them, I would trade you an Adore CD for any single from the box set......on second thought I'd rather have a second copy of a box-set single then Adore

I was never able to get the box set. My mother never really approved of my musical tastes at the time, and since I was so young, I couldn't get it on my own. But I totally agree. I feel more satisfied listening to the Bullet With Butterfly Wings single than I do Adore. And that says a lot since I hate Bullet With Butterfly Wings. Despite that, it's still my favorite single from the set. I think it's because I love Dreaming, Said Sadly, and You're All I've Got Tonight so much.

BTW, don't get me started on the pumpkins, their my favorite band ever.
