Delta Tables

Last week, while I was on vacation, I refurbished my chapter's delta table. As far as I know, its been in service there since we were a colony in the early 80s. I say that because it looked at least 10 years old when I got there in 1991. The sides, measure someting like 25", 26", & 27".

Originally, I was going to build a new one for the chapter, but I've been told a group of AMs have already gone together and built one. (We have yet to see physical proof.)

So I was wondering if any of your chapters have tables that are special in any way; if they have any distinguishing features or anything? I might go ahead an build mine anyway, just because I want to. Then my wife can set a plant on it or something.

We rebuilt ours about 2 years ago, nothing too special, just that we can take the legs off of it for easy storage.

Uni. Maryland has a really nice one made out of marble.
G.W. has one that folds up into a brief case or a suit case i am told, haven't actually seen it.

Wow, marble sounds nice! Heavy, but nice.

Last year, one of our alumni - who's currently the High Pi - had his brother-in-law, a Shop teacher in Upstate NY, build a really nice table for the chapter and ship it down to Florida. It arrived last fall during Founders Day.

The High Phi came over for the great unpacking. The triangular legs appeared a little long, but undaunted, we laid the top upside-down on the floor, slipped the legs into their pockets, and set the table upright. We stood back to admire it.

"Is it supposed to be that high?" One of the brothers walked up to it, folded his arms on top, and pretended to order a beer.

"Yep, that's definitely too tall". We had a good chuckle. It was an easy fix, though - just chop a foot or so off each of the legs. Very nicely constructed, however, out of maple or oak (I forget which).

At our chapter, we use a very small (maybe 7" on each side)
Delta "stand" (better word than a table) for regular meetings...
only use the big table for "formal" events

I have no clue how old ours are, but they look VERY old.

Anyway, we have 3 of these small delta stands. In 1987
when I was Hi Phi, 2 of the stands were never used and
hadn't been painted in years.

Then a chapter consultant (ELC now) shows up, and
quizzes me sharply on why we have three small
delta stands in addition to the larger one. I told him
we never used the two old ones...guess they'd just
been here for a while...but couldn't understand why
he was so "curious/upset" about them.

A few years later I saw something new (to me)....a Theta Kappa
Nu ritual book, including a diagram of the "setup"....
a large triangular table surrounded by three smaller
stands in the form of their badge.

Made me wonder....maybe the consultant thought we
WERE using them for that purpose!

At UT-San Antonio we used (and still do) a folding table (2' x 6') and have a vinyl banner that goes across the front and we'd place the flag on top, which fits almost perfectly. On top of that we'd place the trophies, photo albums, cross & crescents, steins, glassware, a few of the smaller paddles and a sign up sheet.

It was always by dream to have enough $ to buy one of those corporate type trade show table and backdrop. But theyre expensive.
