Keeping new members
We're having a problem keeping new members interested in our chapter here in Alaska!
Is this a normal thing or is it just because greek life is kind of ... well... greek to most people?
I'd appreciate any advice/comments.

My chapter has been having the same problems with new members. I think it's a general trend, especially in smaller campuses. Women just don't get it. We started with 8 this past semester and we ended up with only three making it through.

When I was initiated into Tri Sigma, there were around 25 members. A small number, I thought, but I also thought that they were great girls, and the momentum would eventually catch on.
Was I ever right! This year, our membership is well into the 60's, and it's only been 3 years.
Here is what I would suggest - Yes, Fall Rush is important. But what we focused on was Informal Rush, where we basically were able to invite and initiate the girls who saw our letters around campus and asked questions, and were friends of Sigma's. You'll surely be able to pick quality woman who fit in with your sisters.

I'm not really sure what to say to help you with this. Our chapter here is smaller as well.
My only possible suggestion for you is to make sure that the ladies' new member period is as special and meaningful as possible. Do you have any special activities that you do at Crews? Are they becoming actively involved in Chapter activities, therefore realizing how meaningful Sigma is?
Just some random thoughts for you!
Best of Luck. I hope things have improved for you!

WELL THIS COMING FROM A CHAPTER THAT IS THE LARGEST ON OUR CAMPUS. WE HAVE A REALLY GOOD RUSH PROGRAM DURING OUR NEW MEMBER PERIOD WE DO A LOT OF THINGS TO KEEP THE GIRLS ACTIVE LIKE INVOLVING THEM IN SPORTS, AND THEN HAVING ICE CREAM AFTER OR A MOVIE. THE GIRLS TOLD THAT THEY REALLY ENJOYED THE TIME THAT WAS SPENT WITH THE ACTIVES AND SEEING THE SISTERHOOD THAT WE HAD. SO HOPE THAT THINGS GET BETTER

I have some very wonderful news...
My chapter has doubled their numbers in one semester! I never thought I would see the day. I just thought I would share that with my sisters...
I also want to thank all those who replied to my "cry for help".
Your advice has kept my faith in Tri Sigma alive and kicking.
Thanks ever so much!

awesome new members
In our chapter we could bring in 30 this fall. All 30 joined and 28 were initiated The way we keep one another together is by doing fun things together as a pledge class. We all have sisterhood retreats and talk about any problems we are having and forgive one another for anything. Our chapter gets the sisterhood award every year on campus!.

Dear Kelly,
Why don't you get with your Collegiate Coordinator, Suzie, and she can aid you in retaining your new members. Often it might have to do with the crew program, or not enough Sisterhood acitivities etc. Suzie should be able to give you an answer and guidance since she works with your chapter on a daily basis.
