Mary Kate Olsen and eating disorders
Do you think Mary Kate Olsen's eating disorder will effect her acting career or do you think something good may come about from this such as women stopping the excessive weight loss or trying to be too skinny. Hopefully she will be better and realize that she does not have live up to the false expectation to be perfect.
I think as women we need to take pride in how smart and funny we are instead of how skinny or how big our boobs are. We are more than a just a body type. Just my 2 cent

Honestly I don't think anything good or bad willcome from it (other than Mary Kate's recovery or her lack thereof...it could be either).
I don't think this will affect her career. I also don't think it will change the medias body image ideas, nor will it the general publics perception of body image.
To me, people will see it as something that happened. Soon enough we'l forget about this and move on to bigger news...like J.Lo's baby and subsequent divorce.

I don't think it will hurt her career. There's been a number of actresses who have had eating disorders and they were able to recover from it. I just hope she is able to recover from it. I'm sure it's not easy for her to have to deal with this publically.
Eating disorders are much more than "Oh, I think I'm fat so I'll stop eating". It's more of a control issue and the feeling that you have power over some aspect of your life. True, women are very concerned over their appearance but eating disorders are more of an emotional response to things going on in the person's life. Unfortunately, many researchers have found a high percentage of women who have eating disorders were once phsically or sexually abused. That would harm anyone's self-image and self-worth.
I think that when she does recover, she should set out to inform people of the dangers of anorexia. I think having someone of her celebrity status to come out and say, "This is a problem in Hollywood and the mainstream. Here's how I dealt with it and here's how you can, too" would be great. The only celebrities I can think of who have been vocal about their eating disorders are Tracy Gold and Paula Abdul but there could be more.

And don't forget Britney's supposed engagement. **coughpublicitystuntcough**
Anyhoo... I thought the Olsen's lost their career after Full House went to the cutting room floor. They keep making oogobs of money somehow though. Oh well. So I don't know if this new tidbit of info will "break" their careers because I never considered them to have a career... unless you count tons of made for DVD movies.
however I found it amusing that my mom told me on the plane home from vacation that she saw an In Touch Magazine with the M.K story on it. I told her that In Touch was a glorified tabloid. But when I went to the store this morning... it seemed like EVERY magazine had Mary Kate on the front. It made me wonder if this report is actually true since MULTIPLE tabloids were all saying the same thing.

I was watching Good Morning America this morning and Britney and Kevin's engagement is the cover story on the new People magazine coming out this week.
Anyway, back to MK. Even though their acting career spawned a bunch of straight to ABC family/video/DVD movies, they still have their Wal-Mart clothing and cosmetics lines.
Girls (who weren't even born yet when MK & Ash played Michelle on FH) love their clothes because they're "stylish". Parents buy their girls their clothes because they're cheap.
I see it like this. Even if MK & Ashley don't ever act again, they're still set for life. They have their multi billion dollar empire to take care of them.

Not only does she have a cocaine problem, but I heard that Mary Kate also has a heroin problem, works in the porn industry as a porn star under a pseudonym, and is a member of Al Qaeda.

Well, they said they were sick of being referred to as "the Olsen twins." Now they have something differentiating them (thought I don't think Ashley is far behind as far as thinness is concerned.)

She's not the first celebrity to have an eating disorder. I don't think it will affect her career.

The post I editted above said that my friend heard that on the news, but I wasn't sure where.
I wouldn't be surprised. They're rich. She looks kinda cracked out (altho I think she's prettier cuz she's got darker hair).

There were reports earlier today that she was really in treatment for cocaine addiction, but this article negates that:

Cirque Lodge is an addictions treatment center. Their website mentions nothing about eating disorders. While eating disorders and addictions do share some of the same characteristics, it is highly unlikely that they would allow someone in who has absolutely no addiction issues (unless they had beds to fill and they were willing to just accept the money). It would be difficult for that person to connect and get the most out of the program.
If Mary Kate truely had an eating disorder and nothing else, there are other excellent eating disorder treatment centers located in the US and Canada. It makes me sad to think they might be saying it's anorexia when anyone can check out the website and find conflicting information.

do you know for sure that that is where she is? i haven't seen any statements from her family or pr people that say where she is. if it's not released by them, then i wouldn't believe any reports stating where they think she is.
