Question for the southern girls

Hi all... so this might sound silly but anways here goes... I'm a member of DG in a midwestern state and I've heard its alot different things about being greek in the south. I've heard its a lot more "die hard" and very traditional for lack of a better word. I'm asking b/c I'm thinking of getting back to my southern roots and going to grad school somewhere in the south and I'd still want to be active as an alumni wherever I was attending school. If anyone could let me know what they think I'd greatly appreciate it!

Thanks!!!!

Sorry to crash...

The DG chapter here at Ole Miss in Oxford, MS, Alpha Psi, is very traditional and a very southern sorority. I am sure they would love to have you as an active alumna in Oxford. Check out their website. They are very well respected here at Ole Miss and their actives and alumnae are an amazing group of women. I was just in a wedding with a girl who is a senior DG here at Ole Miss!

Talking

I'm not actually sure what I meant by "die hard" that was just the term I had heard used to describe it. I guess I'm just trying to figure out the similaries a differences between sororities in different parts of the country. And even similarities between different chapters of DG. At my school its not "the" sorority to be in but it doesn' t have a bad image either. I know at other schools in the state its the "uncool" one and at another it's the "skanky" one. We have awesome girls in my chapter and I'd really like to improve our image at my school.
I also wondered if in some areas if its pushed on you more than others.

And to ncsudgalum04, I am trying to find a good school to attend to work on my masters of social work. Know anything about your schools program?

NCSU social work program

well, as far as msw programs, i'm not too sure about it, but i think we are supposed to be getting a new one. so, that can be good and it can also be bad. you can go to www.ncsu.edu and see if we actually do have the program. i actaully got my bachelor's in psychology this may, and i've heard so much about social work. people keep encouraging me to do that. can you social work people clue me in on what it's all about? also, i know there are other good msw programs here in NC but i'm not sure where they are. just try to look for schools in the UNC program like UNC-Chapel Hill (even though they are our biggest rival), UNC-Charlotte, UNC Wilmington, unc greensboro, unc ashville, ncsu, appalachian state university. just check those out and see what they offer.
in regards to our sorority, we are new, so we are trying to establish our own traditions and just learning to have a good sisterhood. so far, we have a pretty clean reputation on our campus. when we compete in greek week and derby days, we do pretty well considering we beat other teams that have been here longer than us. this year we placed second in derby days. if we can just beat zta we will be good. zta is seen as the top dog in our npc system. there are only two dg chapters in NC, the eta kappa chapter at ncsu, and the beta theta chapter at duke. good luck with grad schoo and your decision! hope to see you in NC!

hi, feel free to email me with any questions you have about the social work profession. there are so many reasons why it is better to get a master's in social work than in psych. i also have a ton of links of social work resources and listservs. or just PM me!
