Smile Hey Girls

Hey ZTA's! I'm a sister of the Eta Iota Chapter, it's in Valdosta, GA. I would love to hear from some Zetas in other Chapters, and to hear how everything is going!

Hi, Zeta Girl! My third daughter is a high school junior and is thinking seriously about Valdosta. Could you tell me what the Greek system is like, as well as each sorority? Valdosta doesn't have chapters of any of the sororities that she's a legacy to.

Hey Carnation,
Overall I like Valdosta. There are a few things that I wish I would have known before I enrolled, Here are a few things to know about Valdosta. If you go to orentation and eat at Palms Diner, the food will be really good that day, my theory is on that day they hire different people to cook, because the food there is really gross! (Just in Palms, the other places are much better) So if you do choose VSU, get the meal plan that you can eat at different places( not just at palms, which is what most freshman have)The dorm rooms are very small and don't forget to bring shower shoes (flip flops) The campus is really pretty and is small enough to get to classes quickly(and most classes are fairly small so it is easier to pay attention)( But the school isn't so small that you know everyone like in high school). I love my sorority. I think without my sisters ...well...I don't know what I would do. Zeta Tau Alpha has a very close sisterhood and get along good with the other sororities. At VSU most of the sororities get along pretty good.I've hears stories of other school where the different groups can't get along, and don't get me wrong there are sororities that I really like way over others. I could never see myself in and other one besides Zeta Tau Alpha, I have met lots of girls I know I can trust with anything! Our philanthrophy is the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer awarness, in which we do a lot for.Oh..by the way what sororities have you or your family been in that your daughter is a leg. to? I was the first in my family to go greek, and I'm glad I did. I wouldn't have it any other way!!!!!!
Love,
Zeta_Girl

Dear Zeta Girl,

Thanks! I saw VSU a few years ago and that place is soooo beautiful! I'll ask my daughter if she has any questions. She's a legacy to Pi Phi (by me) and AOPi (by her oldest sister) and possibly a third before she goes through rush (by her second sister, who's choosing between Tech, Emory, and maybe Bham Southern). Her cousins are Phi Mu, AOPi, and Kappa.

Okay, my daughter just came in and she wonders if you could tell her about the art program there! She's won a bunch of prizes.

Y'all have a fabulous chapter at UGa that just pledged 2 outstanding girls from here and there's another great chapter at Jax State!!!

Carnation,
I don't actually have any art classes, but I know lots of people who do. Valdosta has a great arts program. I've heard lots of high school seniors say the reason they will be going to VSU is that they have heard great things abut the art programs. A few weeks ago VSU held some kind of arts convention, that high schools from all over attended. I'm not really sure a bunch about that, it was the same weekend as homecomming so everything that week was extra crazy! Do you know a lot about Jac. state? I was tring to find out more about the school and the Zeta chapter there, just the other day, I e-mailed a girl who goes there but never got a reply!

Hello, Zeta Girl! Thanks for the information!

I believe the JSU chapter is supposed to be one of the top two sororities. Most of the students from here who go there are hoping to be teachers, especially band teachers as their program in that is superior.

I don't know a whole lot else but you might try their website, which I think is www.jsu.edu. I can't wait to tell my daughter about the art info you gave me!

Hey! I'm a ZTA at the University of Central Florida, Eta Kappa chapter in Orlando, Florida. We just finished our annual "King of the Campus" event to raise money for Zeta's philanthropy. It went great and we had a terrific turn-out! Our chapter is one of the strongest, maybe even the strongest, at UCF. I'd love to hear about how things are going at other Zeta chapters! ZLAM

I'm guessing that Zeta_Girl's "Big Man on Campus" is pretty much the same concept of our "King of the Campus". We send letters out to all the fraternities to nominate one of their brothers to participate. It's almost like a pageant. They guys need to have a talent and a speech. It costs money for the guys to enter; the money then goes towards our philanthropy. It also costs about $3 to watch the "pageant" and a lot of the brothers love going to show their support so we make a lot of money that way. Ours turned out great this year and we had a lot of fun! Oh, to answer your question, this is my second year in Zeta.

Hey Not2Fast,
Well ZetaAngel got it pretty close about Big man on campus. We get fraternities to nominate a guy to enter, but we also get the other sororities to niminate a guy. That means we have more guys in the contest. But it is so much fun!

Hey Zeta_Girl,

I'm in nearby Tallahassee and we have several Valdosta alumnae in our chapter. In fact, my current secretary is an Eta Iota.

I'm an alumna of Gamma Mu in Omaha, Ne.

Hey PnguinTrax! I am a recent alumna of the Iota Rho chapter in Greenville, NC. I am trying to start an alum chapter here in town but I'm having trouble finding ideas and fundraisers that we can do. Do you have any suggestions? We've already had our introduction meeting with our Province President and our District President.

I'm a sister of the Delta Beta Chapter at Florida Southern College, Lakeland, Florida. We also have a "Big Man on Campus" fundraiser. Last spring, we raised over $6,000 to be donated to Susan G. Komen!!! It's awesome to read all of the reply's to see how each individual chapter is helping the fight against breast cancer. I am so glad I found this website.
