Warren Buffett joins Kerry campaign as economic advisor

Warren Buffett, the world's second wealthiest person, has agreed to serve as an economic adviser to John Kerry, the Democratic presidential candidate. Buffett has long been a critic of the tax policies of the Bush administration, which he believes favour the wealthy and big corporations over the middle class.

"I am available if anyone wants to ask my view of anything," Buffett said of his involvement with Kerry at a news conference in Omaha, Nebraska, a day after the annual meeting of his Berkshire Hathaway Inc. Buffett said Kerry had asked him three weeks ago if he would be part of an economic advisory council that includes Robert Rubin, who was treasury secretary in the Clinton administration. Buffett said he had accepted.

Wasn't he supporting somebody else before? Or was he just heavily involved in ACT?

Meaningless piece of news. It either means that Kerry had no economic plan, in which case he has been full of it all along, or that he's using Buffett as window dressing.

Yeah it does seem more like a publicity stunt than anything else. Come to think of it, I really haven't heard much on Kerry's economic policies at all.

He was an advisor to Arnold during the CA Gov race. I cannot think of anyone else that he's advised in the political world - but I could be wrong.

Honestly I don't see how Buffet could be an Economic advisor for any administration.

Brother Buffett may be on Kerry's economic team, but it still won't get me to vote for Kerry!

Buffett has consistently been critical of Bush Admin economic policies. This is, I would bet, why the Kerry camp decided to try to get him to help them out in the first place, not the least reason for which they hope it will be impressive to many.
