Standards Board
Hey all,
My chapter has been having some issues with sisters not doing the stuff they need to and then just being able to get away with stuff. So we've been talking about implimenting a standards board and I know there are other organizations that have these.
I was wondering if anyone out there was willing to help me out with this project as I seem to have adopted it as mine now. Any ideas?

We have an Honor Board and you can send someone to Honor Board if they are doing something out of accordinance. Do you have anything like that? It includes our President, Social Standards, a sophomore member, junior member, and member at large.

You really can't go wrong with a standards/honor board as long as they are adhere to the mission of your organization.

I find it interesting that AST does not have some sort of Standards Board set up that is sent down from Nationals. I honestly can't imagine my sorority without it. I would definitely lay down specific ground rules and put it into your chapter bylaws- make sure it's completely fair, and it will serve your chapter well.

Do other AST chapters have a standards board? You should see if they do, especially ones that are close to your chapter so they could maybe come and help you out. Ask around on GC or ask your national advisor if they know of any.

There are a lot of variations of these things . .. some groups use the exec board supplemented with a few members as the standards board.
The dfficulty with a standards board is that they are rarely fair and impartial.

AST does have a standards board, the thing is I can't get a hold of nationals for any information on it. Our last president has been trying to get information for a couple of months now, but since national is kinda doing some reorganization right now getting things is really hard.
We don't have anything set up right now, thats kinda the problem. I know that a lot of girls in the chapter arent going to be thrilled with the idea but many are interested, so I want to see what other groups have specifically for their chapters and see what we can create with our nationals help.
I'm kinda in this fun research area *sigh*

A standards board is a good idea, and will keep the general membership under some sort of order. I would however, be cautious when going from no standards board to all of the sudden "cracking down". If the general membership is comfortable with the current situation, it would be better to slowly implement a standards board. A complete 180 in rules will cause a lot of tension within the sorority (possibly causing good girls to quit or threaten to quit). I've seen something like this happen, and it wasn't pretty.
