What do you guys think?

Ok this past saturday was the start of our greek week. Because of some university pressure greek sing was moved from sunday night to saturday night. THis past saturday night also turned out to be my fraternities celebration banquet of 70 years on campus ( we are the oldest mens fraternity on campus). Anyway so me and a brother skipped out on about an hour of dinner to at least make an appearence at greek sing. He pulled a solo act ( i did the lights and sound) and it was hilariously (sp) funny and it ended up winning third place. Now fourth and fifth place fraternties are trying to make a rule that places a minimum participation number for greek sing. Now i know these guys are pissed but it's not our fault the rest of our chapter couldn't make it. What are you thoughts on this?

someone(s) sounds bitter.

I have seen greek sing performances with 5 members... because that's all they had!

I can see a maximum being like no more than 25 members on stage at a time because of safety reasons... but to put a minimum participation limit is rediculous.

And you had prior engagements.

Tell the others to deal with it. There is always next year.

And congrats on getting 3rd!

Well, if they actually pass the rule, it won't change the results this year. And you guys won't be having a milestone anniversary dinner on the same night next year (71 years just isn't the same as 70....now your 75 year anniversary should be a BLOWOUT!). So if it passes...no big deal. Your chapter can come back next year with the minimum number of guys and take 1st place.

And if you forsee scheduling problems for your 75th anniversary, talk up the importance of the event and make sure they don't schedule Greek Sing on the same night. If they won't give you that courtesy, go party like a rock star on your 75th and forget Greek Sing that year. Some things are just more important.

Congrats on 3rd place!!!!

Sounds like sour grapes! You can't please all of the people all of the time.

People were probably upset that your impromptu performance did so well, as opposed to those who were practicing for weeks. Don't take it personally if they do try to impose some limitations for next year-- you have to keep the majority happy.

I think perhaps some people saw it as your group being disrespectful to the event by being so nonchalant about the whole thing. Since most groups practice and put a lot of time and effort into their performance, it may have come off as though your org did not care and just wanted to do the minimum to get by.

Just wanting to offer an opinion as to why this might have upset some people.
