POEM FOR FOUNDER MARBURY
The Last Pearl
By Soror Dionne Daisey Williford
"Oh Vivian dear, Come over here, My Goodness it's been a while" And Vivian thought, how nice it was to see Cubena smile. She felt as if she were walking in some strange and distant place, As Mary Lou and Bessie, Kissed her on her startled face. "Hey Viv' , you always were the last", joked Nannie from her chair. And then Hattie rose to greet her, "We've been watching you down there" And Dorothy with her perfect smile reached out to hold her too "We're happy that you're here with us we've been waiting here for you, Hurry now, and look your best to an induction we must go! You've joined our chapter once again, The great Omega Rho.." And Vivian looked at all of their faces, and she knew she was young once again. And a smile as bright as the brightest smile, she gave to her old friends. "I'm ready" said. As they linked arms, and walked past the great golden wall, And joy filled her soul with every step, As she answered the last Sigma Call.

Soror that poem was more than beautiful, it was breath taking and it brought tears to my eyes. This organization is truly the Greatest and Soror Marbury will be missed but she'll be smiling because now she has a front row seat while she's watching us grow.

Greetings and my heartfelt condolences to the Ladies of Sigma Gamma Rho,
I saw this poem on another Sigma website and I must say that it brought tears to my eyes. It was quite beautiful. I hope the lady that wrote the poem was able to share it with all of the mourners at the funeral. I'm sure it would have brought smiles to a lot of teary hearts.

Sorhors,
That's such a wonderful poem! Some chapters have included that poem as a page on their websites.

I'm with you. I was still an interest when she entered Omega Rho, so I was crushed. I envy the sorors who had the opportunity to question a Founder about the watching the sorority grow beyond the first seven memebers and establishing a strong presence in Klandiana. I know I would have happily sat with her for hours just listening.
Sorors, if you know a seasoned soror (we're talking 50+ years), take the time to ask some questions and learn something.

Yes, I agree. I was blessed to have conversations with Sorors Harriet Hill and Dr. Shirley Mitchel of Phi Sigma before they passed. Sorors if you don't know any seasoned Sorors they are always at Boule. I know of Sorors who wouldn't miss a Boule. They come in wheelchairs!!

Sorhors,
When I was made a Sigma in the Spring of 83,' five of the founders were still with us and Hattie Mae actually showed up to a Regional Conference. It was just really nice to meet her and see a living founder in person. I just can't image what they went through on that predominately white campus during the heart of Jim Crow (1922). Think about it the KKK resurged in 1920 in the following states: Kentucky, Indiana, and Illinois.
