Most Fashionable Colleges According to "WWD"

The Most Fashionable University Is...
...New York University.

That's the word from Women's Wear Daily, which honored 10 of the nation's best academic powerhouses by saying their students know how to dress well. Word to the wise: If you're considering attending any of these schools, make sure you have the money to dress right and the fashion sense to put it all together day after day. Obviously, it's an important part of campus life!

The top 10 most fashionable universities are:

New York University
Howard University
Southern Methodist University
University of Pennsylvania
Wesleyan University
University of Arkansas
Purchase College--The State University of New York
University of Mississippi
Yale University
University of California at Berkley



New York University
In giving New York University the best-dressed award, Women's Wear Daily, which is a very influential fashion newspaper based in New York City, said the Greenwich Village school was "too cool for school," citing it for its fashion stylings of "artists, business types, skaters, punks, hippies, and bookworms." One NYU freshman told WWD, "The sidewalks are like catwalks."


Howard University
Nestled in the heart of Washington, D.C., Howard students were cited for their fashion sense that portrayed an "air of confidence, a sense of where they're going."


Southern Methodist University
At SMU in Dallas, Texas, "Students can recite the names of the city's newest boutiques as easily as any local style editor," the magazine quipped.


This is the first time Women's Wear Daily has dared to do what the Princeton Review and U.S. News & World Report have made their names doing: Ranking colleges. But the rag says the rags that are worn by college students are vital to the fashion industry. "Already boasting considerable discretionary dollars, the demographic comprises the premier consumers of the near future," wrote executive editor Bridget Foley. "From its ranks will come a new wave of industry leaders, both creative and business-oriented." And their socks will match, too.

I'm surprised that none of the California, Florida, or Arizona schools made it onto the list.

If SMU is anything like USC (in California, my alma mater), I think it's pretty serious. This article was actually a topic on one of my fashion BBs.

Hmmm, I guess one would have to question to criteria for being "Most Fashionable". I visit SMU quite often and yes, these students certainly buy some very high-priced things, but that doesn't make it fashionable. I saw a girl last time I visited there wearing tube sucks and a sundress. This is not an isolated incident. lol


But I suppose this is a "High-Priced" list. That is the only thing I could imagine.

U Arkansas though, I concur. Those are some well dressed people.

I went to SMU for my first year and a half of college and, yes, it is high fashion. There are two groups basically. Those who dress in jeans and t-shirts (that would have been me!) and those who go to class as if it is time for a photo shoot.

And this has to do with 1) quite a few people's parents have money there and 2) they have deferred rush, so you have to be "presentable" since you are being constantly observed and critiqued. The favorite place to stalk is the mail room in the student center since EVERYONE ends up going there...

When I went to FSU, the fashion that was worn by the students was very generic compared to NYU students.

The school that should have been #1, in my opinion, is New School University. Its also in the Village, and Parsons School of Design is part of it.

Hmm, not surprisingly my school is not on there. I guess North Faces and Abercrombie mixed with Carhartts and cowboy boots just don't cut it as far as high fashion goes.

I wouldnt have made the cut. I caesed to care what I looked like in college after the third week of classes my freshaman year.

Its funny watching the freshman come to campus the first weeks of school. They have new sneakers, primp and carry all their books to class. lol. By the time I was a senior they were lucky I baithed.

I have noticed that those NYU students can dress. It looks like a fashion show in the Village sometimes.

I knew Howard (I thought Spelman) would have made the list. My first introduction to Howard was a senior talking to me about the dress standards at college (ie. full length fur coats--for attending class).

Not surprised that UCLA is not on the list. During my brief time there, I saw more laid back fashions. Tees,tanks, jeans

i guess they didnt have a trendy/slutty portion of their list....i know sdsu would have been number 1!! we got some hot bitches at this school, and damn do they know how to show what mamma gave them!!!
lol...i am just being a stupid horny frat boy...they are not really bitches, they are intellegent ladies with a great sence of style and take advantage of the warm weather to wear cool clothes...lol

Really not surprised Howard is on the list. This was really no need to ever pay for a fashion show. You can just sit on the yard and get your fill for free. LOL.
