Oh, I can hear the band playing now in my head.
Oops, I can't forget my studious days in grad school at Meharry. I spent those days in a cloud. Meharry

Fisk University was my HBCU of choice. My parents were both HBCU alum, Southern University, so I knew about them but hadn't really started considering one till I had reached my tired of being the token Black girl limit. Half the schools I applied to were HBCUs, another quarter were near HBCUs. I chose Fisk, and this will sound SO SILLY, but my acceptance letter was dated on my birthday and I thought it was a good omen. Not to mention that at the time Fisk was the cheapest school with teh best reputation so that's where I headed.

Representing the SWAC!
Jackson State University!
The home of the world reknowned, summa cum laude of bands,
The Sonic Boom of the South!
Tower of Power (saxophone section)
Jackson State University, Mississippi's only comprehensive university, was the place for me. I had my pick of east coast schools and offers of scholarships if I majored in engineering (WTF). I always knew I wanted to attend an HBCU because I figured I would be in a majority white work environment. When Jackson State offered the academic scholarships for its new Mass Communications program, I jumped at the chance.
I'm SO glad, I went to JSU!
