Rick Lake Commercial
Good morning ladies and gents
I was watching tv recently and saw a commercial that was for a Ricki Lake show. The commercial starts with two white women standing in front of two upstairs apartments of what appears to be a run down motel. The two ladies are dressed in flowered house dresses, rollers, and head rags. They are smoking and drinking and laughing. Their lines go something like this . . . "Gurl, did you see so and so?" "I don't believe she had the nerve to blah blah blah" Well, the title of this Ricki Lake show is "White Women that Act Black". Now, why I don't like this commercial . . . excuse this, but it has pissed me off . . . What in the hell makes Ricki Lake think these women are "acting" black instead of just acting like trailer trash?! I am extremely offended by this commercial and I am no longer watching anything that supports Ricki Lake.
So, I was wondering if this mess of a commercial had aired anywhere else besides here. If so, did anyone else find it stereotypical and offensive.

Fortunately, I have not seen the commercial, but I have noticed a trend in talk shows. Whenever someone hosts a show about someone acting Black, that person is usually a hillbilly in FUBU with no grammatical skills. I always find it amusing that some think these people are acting black, I don't know of ANY of my people who act that way...

I have not seen this particular promotion, but I have seen something very similar to it in the past. They also had shows in the past about Blacks who act to "White". I just don't watch Ricki Lake anymore. I can't take the ignorance.

I am very disappointed in this. I'm not the biggest Ricki fan, I only watch it when there is absolutely nothing else on. However, there have been several occassions where I have seen the show and Ricki has made the statement...what is acting black, talking white, etc! Can I say hypocrite!

Has anyone thought to write Ricki Lake? Just curious.
