Election results

During elections the chapter advisor and the secretary tally the votes and announce the winners. After the elections are over, can the make the results public? Is there anything that says they can't? Is there a reason the chapter shouldn't be able to know how many votes the winner won by?

But seriously, what is up with your screen name?

I could not find anything written in the Code of Regulations or the Constitution that dictactes whether or not the votes are private. Maybe I didn't look hard enough, but I didn't find anything.

However, maybe there is something in your Standing Rules that suggests that votes are private?

That said, the Secretary is in charge of collecting and tallying written votes (sometimes with the advisor or CCD). If the chapter does not trust the Secretary and advisor to do their job honestly, then you all have a problem.

If there was an election shocker in your chapter, you all need to sit down and talk about it. Usually, it's just hurt feelings that trigger debate on whether or not the tallying was incorrect...be sure to figure out whether it's that, or something bigger before anyone is accused to being dishonest about vote tallying.

I am a proud member of the Epsilon Zeta chapter.

Nothing was ever mentioned about not trusting or dishonesty or incorrect tallying. I just couldn't find it in the Standing Rules or Bylaws either. That's why I was curious when the advisor said that information couldn't be released. Results are what they are. What's the big secret?

They don't withhold tallies of presidential votes from the public...

I think it would be helpful for the losing candidates to know where they stand so that they can better prepare to be in that position again and perhaps alter their methods of obtaining a desired position. It would be the learning and growing part of the experience. If the results are wide spread maybe it just wasn't meant to be but if they were close it's motivation to work even harder.

Usually when results are requested, it's because someone feels there is something amuck.

If nothing was amuck then I would let it go. In my opinion, the only thing that could be gained is hurt feelings for the sister if she sees she only got a few votes. The learning experince is the process, and trying again if she is willing.

I forgot Drexel was Epsilon Zeta. I always did the eyeroll when the fraternity men at my school would run around saying "easyDZs". Ug. Dumb boys. LOL.

Good luck
Tracy
