Cool Nicknames
I know many sororities and fraternities have cool nicknames for their brothers and sisters. How do they come up with it?? I am not good or creative at coming up with names......... darn it........... My girls want me to "baptize" them with their new nicknames but I am so bad at being creative..... the names is what you wear on your line (crossing over) jackets.....

In my experience the nicknames are either forced and kind of dumb...or just reflect something the person did (usually while intoxicated) or having to do with their personalities

just think about something they do a lot or that like makes them stand out. Incidents that may have happened. In my old sorority, Beta Mu Omicron (music service sorority), a girl in my pledge class got nicknamed Beaker because when she was in some science class she was checking out the hot teacher (she was a boy freak and knocked over all the beackers on the table...thus she got named Beaker. My nickname was Lil Bit cuz Im petite You want it to be something that kinda inside jokish too. Something that would need explaining. Here are some nicknames of my, well ex-sisters:
Stacey: Sweet Tea
Tiff: Wrong Turn/10-4
Tara: Barbie (we nicknamed her boyfriend Ken
Emma: Baba Liza (Its Romanian)
Amber: Giggles/Embryo
Kiana: Curley Q
Me: Nips/Pink Suga :P
Good Luck!

We give ourselves our nicknames. Mine is goddess V (lowercase g, uppercase V) because well, people call me V and I'm just that cool. (Humor me, folks, ok?) Some of our nicknames are simple, some not so much so (Like D's nickname is My Dixie Rex....**rolls eyes**)
So I would say to see what others have to say about their own nickname.

I think you're referring more to the line names more commonly given by NPHC and MGLO's correct? Such as (and this is an example only): Soror "Everlasting Flame" (insert name here).
I think they usually have something to do with the org, the individual personality of the person and some inside "jokes" (as it were--people in the GLO would really be the only ones to "get" it)
Perhaps members of NHPC and MGLOs can be of more assistance?

My Alpha Phi Omega nickname is "Linda Richman" after Mike Myers' character on "Coffee Talk." My big brother thought I talked a lot and had similar mannerisms. I don't know how true that really is!!! I've calmed down a lot since then, so it might not even fit me anymore.

We're going to give our girls their nicknames this weekend
My pledge class however had:
Trouble Bubble (because I was the worst pledge ever...lol)
Doc Johnson (she's a nursing major..and talked to much about medical info)
Smokey Magee (she was the only one that smoked..andMagee just sounded right )
I'm naming my little probably "Peztard", because she's pathetic when trying to put candies into a Pez dispenser. Yes..very unpc..but oh well
Have fun w/the nicknames, and oh, always ask yourself, "Would I mind having this nickname for the rest of my life?"

My nicknames/aliases over the years:
From APO:
1) "Doc" (Fall 2000 - While on pledge line) Because of my pursuit of a career in medicine and knowledge thereof.
2) "Smoooth" (Spring 2001 - During Spring Break at Oak Island, NC) PM me if you want the unedited story.
3) "Leon Phelps" (Fall 2002- At National Convention in New Orleans) Named after the character from "The Ladies' Man" movie; was given to me actually by a brother from another chapter, and the name followed me back to Greenville!
From Masonry:
1) "360" (attributed to former "directional difficulties" I was facing)
2) "Schroeder" (after the "Peanuts" character)
3) "Medic" (for obvious reasons)

My chapter does two nicknames-the pledge class nickname (on our pledge class jerseys), and a formal nickname (on the formal jersey.)
The pledge class nick is chosen by the other members of the pledge class. Mine is Tokyo 2, because I have a stuffed otter named Rodan, that when I get bored, destroys imaginary Tokyo. The 2 is because Rodan destroyed Tokyo in the second movie.
The formal nick is given to us by our mom. Mine is Sisyphus 13. Why? I can only tell Gamma Phis.

My chapter doesn't do any kind of "formal" nicknames. Usually, if someone gets a nickname, it's because there are 2 or more people in the house with the same first name. For example, we had so many Elizabeths that they all had to go by either a nickname or their last name just so we knew which Elizabeth was being referred to. Same with Jennifers and Kristens.
I never had a Gamma Phi nickname. I'd be interested in hearing the story of how you got yours, GPhiLlama!
