Random Question

I've been told that women going through Panhellenic rush should NOT wear the color red. Is this even true?? And, if it is (and you can elaborate) please tell me why??

preciousjeni

Edited to add: Why do I keep editing everything?? Well, anyway, this question is just for knowledge...I'm not rushing...just to make sure everyone knows, I'm a Theta Woman!!!

That's really random, I've never heard that! The only reason I can think of is that it may seem flashy, but honestly I had enough trouble trying to put faces with names during rush-anything that could help me remember a PNM was great. As long as you don't wear the red skirt with a neon green skirt (or some other obnoxious color) I think you're okay!

That is a new one! I have heard, however, that women attending NPHC informational sessions should not wear the colors of any of the four NPHC sororities, since each sorority is SO associated with their individual colors.

This could potentially be a local rule... At my school on preference night, PNMs are asked not to wear black or red because these are the colors chapters will be wearing.

I've never heard that this was some kind of rule or custom. Red could be great, as long as the outfit follows the simple guidelines often stated by GCers:

Nothing too revealing.

Flattering to your body type, skin tone, and hair color(s).

A current style without being extreme.

Nothing too conservative and "old-lady" looking.

Nothing that makes you look like you're still in high school.

Nothing that looks like you've gone overboard trying to make an impression.

Nothing that's so casual that it looks like you didn't care to make an effort to look good for your hostesses.

Something that's comfortable.

Something that's probably a little more dressed-up than the Panhellenic guidelines at your school suggest.

And most imporetant, relax and have fun!

Re: Re: Random Question

That is definitely a local tradition. Of the southern school I attended, nor the west coast chapters I have advised have there been any restrictions on the colors a PNM may wear to recruitment parties.

Thank you, adpiucf, but I have to give credit where credit is due: Lil' Hannah was the first GCer to post that picture -- months ago in a thread about SHIMs and all sorts of strangeness.
