OK everyone, I know how everyone feels about a new frternity. I have learned this the hard way, but as a brother to Iota Delta Phi, National Fraternity, Alpha chapter. i was wondering if anyone could lend advise about getting a university to acknowledge us. We have a charter, we have a members. We have a strict GPA policy, and we have a lot of fun, but we can not participate in sports, greek week, or anything sanctioned by NCSU. All Fraternities started new at one time could someone help us?

			1. Complete all the paperwork to become a recognized student organization. It's just like being the first people on campus to start a French language club. If you want to be recognized by the university, you need to follow their procedure.

Once you become a RSO, petition the IFC to become an associate member.

2. Get a University alumnus or professor to serve as an advisor and really have him advise you. Get him or her to meet with the Greek administration on your behalf.

3. You say you have a charter, members and a strict GPA policy. However, do you have the following:

Constitution and by-laws
Anti-hazing policy
Risk management policy (re: alcohol, drugs, sexual harassment)
Defined recruitment policies
Defined membership policies (expectations, what it takes to be an initiated member, rules of conduct and consequences)
Liability insurance (this is a big one these days)

Having all or most of the above will help solidify your position.

You are right, I am supportive of the divine nine. However, since you asked, I'll give my 15 cents: In my honest opinion, respect is earned. It will take time to establish a frat with clout. Having/establishing a "history" is just a part of what makes an organization great. It will definitely take time, even beyond your tenure at the university.

Well this Fraternity has been est since 97 it was rechartered in 98 as a national Fraternity , trying to seek recognition from NCSU. WE have all the above mentioned except the insurance thing , I ve heard a lot about that what is it and what does it cover

You may also want to "wander" on over to the "up-and-coming GLOs" forum. A lot of us have experience with this sort of thing.

What PenguinTrax outlines, though, has been what our organization uses to get recognition on campuses as well.

Also, you may want to check out the IFC site, I think their insurance stuff is online. Also, you may e-mail me for contacts at a few insurance companies that handle fraternal groups.
