Positivie Sorority Article from U of T
http://www.thevarsity.ca/news/598282.html?mkey=1157257
I think this is the first positive Greek article in the U of T Varsity paper in a long time.
p.s. feel free to move it to the Kappa board if necessary.
p.p.s. I didn't know that former Canadian PM Kim Campbell was a Kappa. I had a feeling she was in a sorority, but for some weird reason, guessed Alpha Phi.
ETA: This thread's name should have said POSITIVE!! My bad!

Maybe not the most well-written article, but pretty good PR. Most of the general fraternity information is taken straight from the Kappa website, but it's still good to get the name out.
I kind of chuckled when I read the President's "anonymous" response. To not comment is the preferred stance with media, but the fact she said "It could take a really long time" to get approval from HQ made me laugh.

I CRACKED UP. I am loving the journalistic integrety here..."Speaking on the condition of anonymity, the president said...." Like Kappa doesn't know who the president is?

Nice article, but a little late for the open rush period.... beginning of Jan. would have been a little more helpful.
I do have to wonder about the source of the article though... the only articles that have ever portrayed any Greeks in a positive light in the Varsity have been written by members of the org. featured..... I assume that the author is a Kappa. But no matter how simplistic the article may appear, it's exactly the right level of information for most UofT students. I can guess that around 3 in 4 students reading the article would be suprised that there are sororities at UofT (or any greeks).
Ideally I'd love to see the Varsity do the article it was going to do three years ago (with Pan Hel and the GFA footing the bill), where each house was featured in a paragraph listing contact info, history, charities, and other info. I think it would help get the info out there.

GP, I think it's also so that perverts don't phone the house asking for a specific girl by name and then from there, the "heavy breathing" would ensue.

I question the accuracy of that article, in that I don't believe that Kim Campbell was in a sorority at all. This is certainly the first time that I have heard that (and lord knows, that "urban legends" abound when it comes to Greek Life ( thinking of the AXO pin on the moon Urban Legend....) If Kim Campbell is indeed a Kappa, it would have been at UBC and I *never* heard anything about Kim Campbell being a KKG when I was a student there.
Also, in looking here:
http://www.canadiangreeks.com/direct...s/kkg_win.html
there lists 2 famous Canadian Kappas, neither of which are Kim Campbell, and I would trust the research skills of Shala and Chantal (who are both friends of mine and the webmasters of said site) more so than some hack reporter who was probably "told" by U of T Kappas that Kim Campbell was one of their own and didn't bother to actually verify it.

Yeah the a**hole was up on the patio of Gamma Phi and AOPi last week.... I've talked to the cops I know and they are swinging by the area more often, on-duty or off-duty.... basically driving by the houses more often, and "encourgaing" off-duty cops that the Maddy might be a place to grab a few beers and keep their eyes open. If anyone on the board came out to the Greek Week events, you may have met some of the cops on "Pub Night" hanging out with the Lambda Chi's. I hope they catch this guy soon because alot of the girls are getting scared/pissed (either not good).....

I hope that these incidents don't affect numbers.

Sadly, this situation is not limited to U of T. When UBC had its "old" Panhellenic House (which has now been torn down), the sororities who had downstairs suites (GPhiB, AGD and APhi, if my memory serves me correctly) often had to contend with perverts who would come up from Wreck Beach, they would stand in front of the windows and masturbate. Grrrrrr!!!

I think that this guy beyond being a pervert is an idiot.... I would hate to think of what would happen if a group of girls coming home caught him... or worse a group of girls with some guys.....
