Travelling alumnae (i) consultants

I was reading in my ANCHORA and discovered that DG has two alumnae who basically serve a similar purpose to our collegiate advisors. They travel around and help alumnae chapters who need assistance. Granted, there are only two of them as this is a brand new program, but I thought this was interesting and wondered if other groups had alums who also travelled to work with alum groups. I assume all groups have an alum officer at the top, but this is my first experience with alum field reps.

Alpha Xi Delta has something similar. We have about 40 Area Facilitators and part of their focus is working with a certain number of alumnae associations that have been assigned in their area.
I think it's great that national organizations are recognizing the importance of alumnae involvement!!

Thumbs up

I have not heard of this in LXA but, I want to congratullate those Organizations that are doing this!

If more and more Groups come to realize that Alums are much more good for something than just asking for money, that would be a first start!

I truly believe that is a good asset to any org. Some alumnae chapters have problems just like collegiates and national/EO/whatever are not aware of these problmes nor do the area regional alum officers and if there was a traveling consultant i think that would better serve our alums better then just letting issues and situations cause breakdowns of our alum chapters.

Red face

Here in comes the rub! The Headquarters are strapped for cash just as the Local Chapters are. Well in some instances.

Yes, it is a Catch - 22 situation. $$$ Rule, but where do the $$$ come from, The Alums.

But the thinking is, if the ELC/TLS come to visit the Local Chapter to give advice, it will filter down to the Alums!

Remember too, that very few National Goups have the resources to pay for these people, they are Volunteers who do the visits.

LXA does have one of the biggest staffs for this type of thing and My Chapter is at Loggerheads with them for the time being. But, here again comes the problem with money and time!

Basically, The Alums are the overall back bone of any organization as We know it!

I am sure that you and the rest have seen it, when times get tough people bail out, but when times are good, they all want to ride the Horse of Yea I am here to help!

We have alumnae chapter development team members (2 or 3) who help out new alumnae chapters for the first year and struggling chapters. We also have alumnae directors for each of our provinces.
