Question Compliments from Sorors - what's your favorite or most memorable?

Skee-Wee, SORORS,

As January 15th approaches, I find myself reflecting on the beauty of our sisterhood. It brought to mind a compliment that was given to me by a soror that always makes me smile when I think about it.

One of the sorors that I went to undergrad with was the reason I became interested in Alpha Kappa Alpha in the first place. Whenever I think of AKA to this day, I think of her. As far as I was concerned, she was Miss AKA, okay? Well, at a wedding, she asked me a question, then she qualified it with, "I'm asking you because I know you are a good soror." Hearing that come from HER made me smile the biggest smile!!! Sometimes it's the smallest things that touch us the most. It means a lot to me that she thinks I'm a good soror.

So, SORORS, what compliment have you received from another soror that touched your heart?

It was along the lines of me being a "Good Soror", "genuine interest/concern for the organization", "hard working, dilligent"

Being that I am most humble, I can't really recall EVERY word or phrase that has been thrown my way (I'm tired). You know, I always say "thank you" and brush it off...

Well, when a chapter soror who I really admire told me she was proud of the initiative I took in becoming more involved in AKA.

One of my best sororfriends is a beautfiul and accomplished woman on many levels. Well, I was very touched when she told me that she admires the love I have for AKA.

When some of my Sorors said they could see me running for Basileus of my chapter some day. I was shocked. I never thought about that.(I'm only 2 yrs. old) But the fact that they feel I'm a hard working Soror really touched me.

I had the opportunity to speak with my chapter Basileus this afternoon. Her daugher had mentioned to her that I wanted to do a newsletter for inactive Sorors, which the Basileus thought was a great idea. So her daughter calls me one day last week and says "My mom wants to speak with you, but I think it's about something else."

I called the Soror this afternoon, and she reiterated that she liked the idea about the newsletter, but wanted to ask another favor of me, and as she says "It's a biggie!" Because of family illness, my linesister is having to step down from her duties as chair of our Calendar Girl, and the Basileus wants ME to consider taking over as chair! Mind you, I only reactivated less than 2 months ago, but she says that she is "excited about my enthusiasm and because she's been in leadership positions for quite a while, she knows a leader when she sees one!"

Needless to say, I'm feeling a little nervous about that right now. . . but I am honored that she thought of me for this position.

A group of my closest friends are members of AKA. During freshman year, I was involved in an abusive relationship in which there was verbal and physical abuse. It was because of them that I finally got away (although it took 2 more years for me to do so) but when I did they were right there waiting for me.

When it came time to recieve "the letter" I was worried. I knew that i met all qualifications but you know how it is when you doubt yourself. One of my friends that pledged in 2000 said not to worry. She said "You are the best qualified person I know. They would be a fool not to accept you because you are the essence of the organization." I swear, I knew then that Alpha Kappa Alpha was waiting for me with open arms once again.

Most Memorable: I met Former Supreme Basileus Norma Solomon White a few months ago and at the end of our conversation she said that she was proud to call me Soror. I was already floored to be in her presence as well in the room with the Supreme Basileus and others and was absolutely overwhelmed when she made this statement. This neo was absolutely shaken.

Favorite: One of my friends is the Director of Membership and she has been a soror for some time and a few weeks after we went over she told me that she knows that I am going to be a good soror and listed a few reasons based upon what she knows about me by way of our friendship.

Last month at FWRC, I was getting set up with my laptop to record the minutes as conference secretary. Former Supreme Soror Mattelia Grays was coming up to take her seat at the Dais and she stopped to give me a hug. Then she said, "Oh Soror...You have the most beautiful skin". I was like "ooohhhh thank you Soror Mattelia". That made my day.

Talking They rendered me speechless

On June 12, 2004 my chapter recognized me as "Soror of the Year".

This has been my single most memorable Alpha Kappa Alpha moment.
