for the love of it all - would y'all just get off it. stop being rude to each other and move on.
i love greekchat but dang if threads like this don't irritate the piss outta me and make me want to smack somebody...
please grow up and stop repeatedly responding within threads if it doesn't explicitly relate to the topic
this petty bickering amongst ourselves just gives non-greeks an even worse opinion of us...

I think you guys dont have anything better to do! Why would it matter if it was repetitive if you arent always on here! Find something else to do and if you dont like whats being posted and it doesnt effect you anyways so dont reply!

We're just trying to steer a newbie in the right direction.

The beach guy is being pretty rude though....I think it just gets annoying to see the same question beat to death, when we have already all discussed it..several times...and wait...even more times...
if you are interested in Pi Beta Phi's famous alums, you can go to our national's webpage at www.pibetaphi.org.
I'm sure other national orgs have this on their website as well.
And this guy goes to my school........

as a somewhat newbie still i know that in the beginning, i had no idea what searching was or how to do a search. so we should cut the new guy some slack and have a little tact when telling them to do a search b/c it's a repost. better yet, just email the moderator of the forum and ask them to combine the threads, i've seen that done and it's nicer and easier than attacking the new person

props to you, mullet. Very well said, and I agree with you 100%.
I was just trying to point out that Beach didnt have to be so rude in some of the earlier posts.

Try this next time....
Do people automatically know the protocol for GC when they make their first posts? NO!
How do most people respond when they perceive themselves to be under attack? They counterattack!
So how best to respond to new folks when they make such posts?
1. Do *not* call them out in public.
2. Do *not* use names like "newbie" or anything to show that they are of lesser status than yourself.
3. Do be polite.
4. Do try to be informative.
5. Do use PM's whenever you are trying to help them in such areas.
In this thread, there is plenty of rudeness on both sides.

I second this!
This is just an online bullentin board..it's not crucial if something's posted multiple times, there are always new people on the board that haven't discussed a particular topic..there's absolutely no need to flame a new addition to the board.

Question for the mods.....
On another board that I am a member of (run by vBulletin, same as this one) when someone accidentally starts a new thread that actually should be attached to an exisiting thread, one of the mods or administrator attaches it to the correct thread with a note explaining why.
Can this be done on this board? (i.e. when someone starts a thread (like this one) when other threads with the exact same topic exists, can't the mods "attach" the two threads?) I think that would work nicely.

Yup. Threads can be merged. I'm sure amycat, ZetaAce, or John will do that as soon as they're online.

People should read this post. When you are done you should read it again.
Give the person the benefit of the doubt here, they have only been registered for a few months.
We shouldn't "steer a newbie" in the right direction by slamming them and assuming they know how to perform a search on GC.
