Ok, he wasn't the only one going for the ball. Look at that picture again. He didn't deserve to have his life threatened, have beer and other items thrown at him, and then have to be escorted out of the game by the police for FEAR OF HIS SAFETY! That's not right.
***I didn't mean that he cost the Cubs the game, what happened put them in a little bit of a funk and the rest of the game went down hill from there. I'll just say that. He didn't do anything wrong. The ball was rulled to be in the stands so he did not technically interfere with the game.

Actually, he didn't cost the Cubs the game.
No, no, the Cubs cost themselves the game. They made quite a few mistakes after this happened. The team has nobody to blame but itself.
Not to mention that after watching this replay over and over and over it really wasn't fan interference - the ball was in the stands. He was reacting to a ball flying toward him, was he supposed to leave his hands in his pockets while the ball pegged him in the head or something? I would have done the same damn thing and tried to snag the ball as well because it WAS IN THE STANDS.
Everyone needs to quit bitching about how this man cost the Cubs the game because they did it to themselves.

Regardless of the ruling (in the stands, playable) this kid shook up the confidence of a team 5 outs away from the World Series. Prior was pitching (he's my future husband by the way) it should have been cake.
Besides, i've always been taught not to take a ball hit by the other team. you throw it back if you catch it - so why couldn't the kid just let Moises catch it!!!

Top 10 Signs youre NOT a TRUE Cubs Fan
Here's a little something one of my friends made up
Top 10 Signs You Are NOT a Cub Fan (if ANY of these apply to you, you are NOT a true fan):
10. You didn't go to any Cub games this year.
9. You can't name the TV and radio announcers for the Cubs.
8. You don't know what AC05895 means.
7. You can't name every team in the Cubs' division.
6. You started your "Cubs in 2003" campaign after Sept. 1.
5. You can't name any of the following coaches: Pitching, Hitting, 1st Base, 3rd Base.
4. You missed a televised Cub game for reasons WITHIN your control this season.
3. You can't identify every Cub by their number.
2. You were in the streets during any Cub playoff game this year (you people are ESPECIALLY not true fans- if you have to try to be cool, youre obviously not).
1. You like the White Sox in any way.
Get off our bandwagon!

You don't understand, everyone in illinois and indiana are suddenly cubs fans. the bandwagon is filling up quickly. everyone wants to cheer for the winning team.
true fans have been with the team from birth - it's a rite of passage after all.

Oh, i understand all about bandwagon fans, note my many posts on the subject in the NCAA football thread.
There is a difference between those that are bandwagon and are claiming to have been Cubs supporters from day one, and those who's favorite team is out of the playoffs and is now just rooting for the cubs. Since Houston was eliminated i've gone from Atlanta to now Florida. But, i won't claim to be a marlin's fan from way back.

from http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/cubfan1.html
OCTOBER 15--Meet Steve Bartman. He's the poor 26-year-old Chicago Cubs fan who last night got his hands on that foul ball headed for outfielder Moises Alou's mitt. Bartman, who attended the University of Notre Dame, works for a Chicago-area consulting firm and serves as coach for a local youth baseball program. We wanted to speak with Bartman about last night's incident, but he did not return messages left on his office voicemail. And when we dialed Bartman up at his apartment--about three miles from Wrigley Field--we got a recorded message saying that his number had been disconnected. Which is probably not a bad idea.

One of the local newstations leaked where that guy works. Needless to say he hasn't been to work today. He wasn't all at fault for the Cubs loss. But he did start the bad karma working.
And as for the billy goat curse. Sam Sianis, owner of Billy Goat tavern did take the goat through so it's not the curse. I think it had to do with a White Sox fan singing during the 7th inning stretch that added to it.
GO CUBBIES!!!!!!!
Proud north sider and nervous wreck
