Case Expansion
Hey everyone! A few of my sisters from Akron and I went to Case Western on Thursday night for the informational session. Only about 13 women came to the event, but when they left, we really thought that there might be a few more out there that will come for interviews once those who attended the informational session went back to their friends.....*crossing fingers*. We will be going up again on Sunday for Pi Alpha and Bid Day. I will update again on how many colony members we will have at Case. Campus total there is only 50 women so this is totally feasable, especially since they have deferred recruitment and they have a calendar year to get close to total.

What's total at Case? Are there any other NPC sororities there?

Total at case is 50 or 60 I believe. There are 4 other groups there....Phi Mu, Alpha Phi, Alpha Chi Omega, and a local. They will have the full calendar year to hit total which is completely feasable since they have deferred recruitment in January.

Will the new colony take part in formal recruitment?

Total is 50. They also have a colony of Phi Sigma Rho, an national engineering sorority.
I'm curious, why are they using Theta Beta instead of the original Delta designation?

Yes they will be participating in formal recruitment.....that is what I understood.
Theta Beta will be their chapter name because when Case Western Reserve University was known as Adelbert College (back in the late 1800s), 13 women began the Theta chapter of Delta Gamma. They had to close a couple years later because of protests against women on college campuses. They will be known as Theta Beta instead of going along with the "Eta" chapters (aka..NCSU-Eta Kappa, NMSU-Eta Lambda? etc) since they will be the second Theta chapter. Make sense??
Its amazing how much you learn when you attend something for another chapter or colony!!

Ah. For some reason, I was thinking they were originally Delta, not Theta. I don't get the renaming thing, but I think that's just because every sorority does it differently. I know if we reopen a chapter that has been closed (even if the school name has changed), they use the original chapter name. So I assumed that DG did it the same way, which was dumb of me.
Good luck to Delta Gamma!

I think that we do rename the chapter the same. This is different because Adelbert College is no longer in existence and the recolonized chapter is at what is known as Case Western Reserve University. I believe that it would be the same for us if my chapter (eta) was founded at Buchtel College and then was recolonized when the name was changed to The University of Akron....
I guess it makes sense to me.....but whether or not I explain it well is a different story....

We were recolonized as the Delta Sigma chapter, which was the original chapter name.

I wish everyone at case good luck! jumping from 9 to 50 does seem like a lot but I am sure they can do it! I love hearing of new chapters opening, it makes me so hppy to think more women will be able to see how great being a DG really is!

I drove up to Case last Sunday for their second round parties (philanthropy). The women were AWESOME!! We have 7 chapters helping the Case women recruit......Akron (Eta), Bowling Green (Beta Mu), Kent (Gamma Epsilon), Ohio U (Zeta Rho), Ohio Wesleyan (Alpha Rho), Ohio State (Epsilon), and Carnegie Mellon (Beta Nu). Everyone seemed to work well together and the PNMs had a great time!
They did a Safari for Sight theme and they all wore khaki pants, black tops, and had cute little animal print nametags, scarves (that could be worn around the neck, head, waist, etc), and sunglasses. They also had little animals with velcro on the hands so they could attach them onto a belt loop. The women looked fabulous. The room was covered in black fabric and had fake trees and leaves, animal print balloons, and animal print DG letters. They did touchy feely coloring pages for the project that were all safari related and also had the name of the animal on the bottom in print and in braille (ADORABLE!!). Food consisted of veggies, trail mix, goldfish crackers, zebra cakes, and banana bread. Drinks were provided in animal head bottles (it was lemonade) and there was also Delta Gamma bottled water.
I was absolutely blown away especially since my chapter has to follow such a strict set of rules about no frills. My mind was going crazy with ideas that I wish I could have done if we weren't no frills! It was fabulous!!!
I'm headed back there this sunday for preference.....I'll leave you details about that shortly after!

Well today was Case's Preference parties. They did "Anchored in the Stars" so the room was completely blacked out with silver stars and black and silvers balloons everywhere. We couldn't have any candles in the room so we put christmas lights in a hurricane type glass cover with white toole, a silver star for it to sit on, and white toole around it also. There were place settings for each potential new member with fruit and cheesecake cups on them. We had sparkling cider to drink.
The ceremony was beautiful and so heartfelt.....the colony members just poured their hearts out to the feelings that they have for Delta Gamma. It was an awesome experience to just sit there and listen and think back to all the experiences that I had with my chapter.
Oh yeah....and I think I'm forgetting one little detail....
We had 68 women (34 at each party) come back for preference!!!! Quota is 23 and I don't think that we'll have a problem meeting that at all!
Bid Day is tomorrow....hopefully I will hear what happens. When I do I'll let you all know!!!

23??? Wow, 16 is the highest quota has been in the last 10 years!
If you hear how any of the other chapters do, too, I'd love to hear.
