I saw the latest episode and it's nice to see Seth getting some attention from Summer even though she's a bitch. I think in the end the Seth/Summer thing will either be a hook up or Seth will realize Summer isn't all that he thinks she is.
Marissa and Ryan though is a sure thing. She's being a typical attention wanting girl by hooking back up with Luke. In the end like any other over done story, Marissa will realize that Luke isn't that all great and will jump Ryan's balls.
Besides O.C. I've been watching All My Children recently. I never thought I'd be interested in these shows.

Although I think all the teenage drama is overplayed and obvious, I'm still enjoying the family side of this show. I love the fact that Seth and Ryan get along (however, I am hoping that Seth isn't going to get jealous if Ryan starts spending more time with Seth's mom, working construction for her company...does anyone else see this coming?).
I know everyone is comparing this show to 90210 but I think the only connection is the California location and the attitude. I think it's more like a Dawson's Creek, without the intelligence, and with 90% more sexual energy and intrigue.

I agree. On another note, Marissa's mother is obnoxious.

Yes I actually watched it and they were pretty good. After all I do need some other shows to occupy my time now that they ended a whole bunch I used to watch. =P I just hope the producers will find a great way to develop the story line. Is the guy who plays Ryan a new face or has he been around?

In the reviews I've read about The O.C., they say Ryan's a newcomer.

I like it okay...but like everyone says, it just seems way too stereotypical. I mean, does every party involve half naked girls snorting coke? And when Marissa was rattling off the punk bands she likes...it was so forced and unbelievable. But maybe that's just me. I don't feel like it's an accurate representation of anything.
But I love the music...I about died when they played "Hallelujah."

I soooo agree. They're using the old listening to punk and citing 'On the Road' as a favorite book as shorthand for depth and character development. It's been done so many times it's ridiculous. Then again, this show is pretty much guilty pleasure tv at it's finest so you really can't analyze it too much.

Marissa's mother is awful! I can't stand her... can you imagine having her as your mother?
Whoever said they liked the music, at the end of this week's episode they played a gorgeous Smashing Pumpkins song... gotta love Billy Corgan!
I definitely am into this show... as one of my sorority sisters said, "I covet the OC"

I watched it, and its entertaining in a mindless, predictable way. I have given it much more thought than I should.
Lets make some more predictions, shall we?
I see conflict between Seth & Ryan re. the Pittsburgh girl (Anna?). She teaches Seth how to be a man (e.g. not such a wuss), Summer starts to like him (in a cat who likes to play with the mouse before she devours it kind of way), Anna develops real feelings for Seth but bottles it up (because, of course, she's been hurt before...)...Entire season of Summer being a beeyatch to Seth & him just taking it, then realizing he misses Anna...meanwhile, Ryan tries to avoid Marissa, spends time with Anna...she has a bad girl past, they bond & fool around for convenience sake, Marissa thinks they are in love so she doesn't pursue Ryan.... Miscommunication abounds, the right people don't end up with the right people, etc., etc.
I have a question about the burning house ep...why, oh why did they feel the need to give Luke a heart & have him fall on the knife & admit his part in the "incident?" I would have liked it much better if he had denied it & one of his buddies rolled over on him so he would still be considered a total jackarse. Just a rambling observation. He is still a jackarse, but not as total and complete as a real Prime Time Soap Villain should be. How long until he starts to hit Marissa, I wonder? What must his father have done to make him the way he is???
So-another point of speculation...does Marissa's dad commit suicide or what? Yes, her mother is completely annoying.
SIDENOTE: I really should not be watching this show, because I am bitter that Fox promoted the hell out of this show & shows it 3 times a week to get the viewership up, and they wouldn't do a fraction of that for the highly original & entertaining Keen Eddie, (admit it-no one here watched it b/c none of you knew anything about it) which I am sad to say has been canceled, in favor of "Stupid Behavior Caught on Tape, Part 75." .
Fox is the Devil.

why do they show it 3 times a week
it's not like it's a syndicate show
it's like they already know it's going to fail
because they are running out of shows
I say to hell with the O.C. Bring Melrose back!!!

It's probably because they are trying to make the OC like Easy View Sundays that the WB provides. And the promotion of the show too. I wonder if the OC is just a summer thing or going to be part of the regular fall lineup.
And yeah Marissa's mom is a total beeyatch. I really wonder how Jimmy ever ended up with her and not with Kirsten. And they they're neighbors no less! Writers have such a way of creating conflict on shows but those are what brings along the ratings.

Not true.
Kirsten is from Newport, a wealthy family.
Marissa's mom is from Riverside, another 909 city, and not from money.
Whoever asked if Ryan was new or has been around. This is his first show. I think he's about 19 or so. Am not totally sure on that. A friend knows him.
