Arya's Philosophical Question of the week.
Why is porn legal, but prostituion illegal?
Both have people having sex for money. Discuss among yourself.

Because in porn both partners are having sex for money?
I really don't know, that just seemed like the logical answer.

Because the government is stupid. I think that both should be legal, as long as the prostitutes are willing and not forced into it.

I don't get that logic, but all I know is that it is a double standard.

because the moral majority can't control everything. They can't tell people what to do in private (porn) but they can in public (prostitution). IF protistution was legalised, there would be no underage prostitutes. Just like there are no underage people who work at the mall. Plus it could be taxed, and schools could buy new text books instead of new metal detectors.

I'm not really sure. Geeky Penguin's response makes sense, though. However, I wish both were illegal.

Because the costs of prostitution to society and the community are much higher. Porn itself is not a problem but the distribution of porn is.

In one of my very few totally conservative opinions (I think I'm generally moderate - neither conservative or liberal), I agree. I don't think either do us any good.

Interested in your logic here.
Prostitution is illegal almost everywhere. A lot of porn is "protected" by the First Amendment.
Seems to me like it's just the opposite, but I'm willing to listen.

what i mean is pornstars are tested for disease and its a business. prostitutes can get diseases and spread them, and they have to put up with pimps and other low lifes that harm the girls and use them. granted neither porn or prostitution are exactly glamour professions, but id say porn is alot safer than the other.

It stems back from the olden days when Sphylis (sic) and other STD's were spreading like wildfire. They figured they could help stop the epidemic by getting rid of prostituition, and it worked.
